Rose “Osang” Fostanes is being eyed by the Bureau of Internal Revenue to pay her taxes after her being declared X-Factor Israel’s first ever winner.

Commissioner Kim Henares explained why the BIR will be going after Osang. “Ang batas ng Pilipinas ay pareho sa Amerika kung ikaw ay Filipino citizen. Hindi naman siya nag-apply ng permanent residency abroad no.”

TV Patrol reporter Marie Lozano explained that as a caregiver Osang is exempted from paying tax if she is registered with the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, also known as OWWA.

Commissioner Henares confirmed this. “You’re taxed globally. Lahat ng income niyo ay tina-tax sa Pilipinas. Ang may exception lang ho dito ay yung overseas Filipino worker. Kung magkakaroon ho kayo ng other income, taxable ho kayo o kaya nanalo ho kayo sa contest, taxable ho yan.”

Another exception will be if she pays all of her dues in Israel and in such case, “ideklara din niya kung magkano yung binayad niya sa Israel at ibigay niya sa amin yung documentation.”

Osang’s family, however, balked at the idea that Henares was already after Osang barely a week after she won. Osang’s sister Gina Camposana said, “Sana wag niyo munang kaltasan kasi pinoy talent yun e. Hindi pa ba kayo natutuwa kumbaga yun na yung representative natin ng Pilipinas. Nakilala nga yung Pilipinas e. Si Manny Pacquiao kasi marami na talaga siyang income e marami na siyang kita.”

But once more, Henares had an explanation to this. “Kung lalo ho kayong sikat, lalo hong nalalaman ng mga tao kung magkano ang kinikita niyo, so mas kailangan niyong sumunod at magbayad ng tama.”
