Bobot Mortiz talks about Goin’ Bulilit kids and graduates as they celebrate their 10th year

Expressing his delight that the show was able to reach a decade, he said, “<i>Natutuwa kami dahil nakakita kami ng isang konsepto na (sa) simula</i>, <i>parang</i> gag show <i>lang siya talag</i>a.<i> Isang g</i>ag show <i>na yung mg</i>a <i>bata, umaarte na mga matatanda tapos parang pantapat din sa ibang</i> gag show <i>ng ibang istasyon. Ang nangyari, tuloy pa rin kami tapos</i> at the same time, <i>nagiging</i> venue <i>siya para magkaroon ng mga bagong artista</i>.”</div><div><br/></div><div>Direk Bobot expressed his delight in the success of the <i>Goin’ Bulilit</i> graduates, especially Julia Montes. “<i>Siyempre natutuwa ako, lalong lalo na</i> <i>kay</i> Julia <i>kasi si</i> Julia noon, <i>nung nag-</i>audition <i>siya hindi siya natanggap</i>. Actually, <i>pang </i>20<i> siya so talagang hindi siya natanggap. Meron</i> <i>din siyang isang kasabay na bata na maganda din na magaling so parang meron lang akong nakita sa kanya na, kasi malungkot siya nung bata siya tapos nung nag</i>-audition <i>siya, pinipilit niya na mag</i>comedy.<i> So sabi ko, pinilit ko na</i> <i>pang</i> 20<i> si</i> Julia,” he said, adding that he saw her potential at an early age.</div><div><br/></div><div>He also relayed how he would talk to GB kids like Kathryn Bernardo, Miles Ocampo, Julia, Kiray Celis, and Jane Oineza about their dreams so he feels happy that they landed a place in the industry. He also mentioned Nash Aguas, CJ Navato, and John Manalo.</div><div> </div><div>When asked who among the graduates he thinks has changed because of fame, he said, “<i>Wala pa naman akong nakikita. Siguro siyempre naiintidihan mo naman yun dahil siyempre minsan mga</i> busy <i>na sila</i>, <i>pero wala, wala. Sa tingin ko, wala akong nakikitang nagbago</i>.”</div><div> </div><div>The director was asked about the rumor that Teen Queen Kathryn Bernardo is somehow changing. “<i>Ang totoo, hindi ko alam kasi hindi ko siya nakakasama. Bihira ko siyang makatrabaho ngayon. Hindi naman siguro, palagay ko naman kasi nung bata naman si </i>Kathryn eh <i>napakabait na bata</i>, simple <i>lang siya, tahimik lang siya so baka ganun lang. Baka ganun lang siya siguro saka sa dami ng trabaho nila baka</i> I’m sure <i>mahirap din yun ma</i>-please <i>niya lahat yun. Siguro naman hindi naman. Sana hindi</i>,” he replied.</div><div><br/></div><div></div><div><br/></div><div><img src="" alt="013015-direkbobot_main.jpg" width="400" height="290" align="left" border="0"/>In the present batch of Bulilits, Direk Bobot talked about the kids that have a lot of potential to make it big someday. “<i>Si</i> Bugoy (Carino), si Casey (Bacayo), <i>tingin ko yan, si</i> Casey, <i>tapos si </i>Belinda (Mariano), <i>may pupuntahan sila</i>. Actually si Mutya (Orquia). <i>Yung mga bata, may pupuntahan lahat sila eh basta tiyaga lang saka wag silang magbabago</i>.”</div><div> </div><div>Meanwhile, the comedy director talked about the issue they had with the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB). He admitted that they reached the point where a psychologist had to check on their scripts. <i>“Minsan napapagalitan kami kasi iba ibang</i> ideas <i>kasi eh</i>. <i>Iba iba talaga. Minsan yung pwede sa ’yo, hindi pwede sa kanila saka medyo nagkasundo na kami ng MTRCB ngayon… Umabot pa kami na kumuha kami ng </i>psychologist <i>dito sa </i>show…<i> pinaaapprove namin sa</i> psychologist <i>yung mga </i>scripts<i> namin para, eto ba makakaapekto sa bata, yung ganon. Hindi ba eh kung ang habol mo lang magpapatawa ka lang, siyempre hindi mo naiisip yun, hindi mo naiisip na, aba </i>offending <i>pala tong</i> joke <i>na ‘to</i>.”</div><div><br/></div><div><i>Direk </i>Bobot admitted that while they want to showcase socially relevant material, they have to tone it down. “<i>Oo naman kasi mas maganda yung nangyayari para nakakarelate kaagad yung mga tao pero hindi namin masyadong magawa yung pang-adult dahil naaapektuhan na yun… hindi pwede sa bata, baka daw hindi naiintindihan ng bata. Ngayon may guidelines na kami na sinusunod so parang nagmellow ng konti tong Bulilit hindi gaya nung una. Ngayon parang naging </i>training ground <i>talaga ng mga bata</i>.”</div><div> </div><div>Though he admitted that it is harder to direct kids, he is hopeful that the show will last long considering that many children want to have a career in acting. He said that even the kids’ personalities are being honed here, not just their skills. He happily recounted that every time they shoot on locations where parents are not around, the kids look after each other.</div><div> </div><div></div><div><br/></div><div><img src="" alt="013015-direkbobot_main.jpg" width="400" height="290" align="left" border="0"/>Considering that the kids have grown emotional attachments to one another, how does Direk Bobot handle those that are about to graduate when they reach 12 to 13 years old? “Sinasabi naman namin sa kanila na may pupuntahan naman sila pero ang totoo, ano eh, dumarating din na sila mismo nahihiya na sila, awkward. Yung bang nahihiya, siyempre, enjoy enjoy pa rin sila pero pag nakikita na nila na ang laki na nila, sila na rin naiilang na rin sila eh.”</div><div><br/></div><div>As much as possible, he said they want to feature kids who look like kids. “<i>Yung mga umaabot ng</i> 13<i> sa’min siguro yung medyo maliit pa, hindi pa halatang dalaga</i>.” He shared that there were also instances where they had to let go of a kid to give way for a major project within the network like what Zaijian Jaranilla did for <i>May Bukas Pa</i>.</div><div><br/></div><div><i>Direk</i> Bobot shared that he still wants to do a lot with the gag show, maximizing the talents of the children and supporting what they want to do.</div><div><br/></div><div>Lastly, Direk Bobot said that he is proud of <i>Goin’ Bulilit,</i> “<i>Yung tagal saka yung samahan, yung ang importante</i>… <i>Sana parati niyong tatangkilikin ang Goin’ Bulilit, hindi lang pambata to</i>,<i> pang-</i>adults <i>din</i>.”</div>

In line with Goin’ Bulilit’s 10th anniversary, director Bobot Mortiz recounted how the show started and what it has gone through over the years.
