ABS-CBN President and CEO Charo Santos-Concio is one of the most well-respected and beloved icons of the Philippine entertainment industry. As she marks her 60th birthday this week, some celebrities reveal their best moments with ABS-CBN’s leading lady.

Piolo Pascual

She made me sing Kahit Isang Saglit during an MMK concert in Intramuros. And I was so nervous. It was such a long time ago. I was just starting out. It was 1995, if I’m not mistaken. We just did the movie Kahit Isang Saglit with Judy Ann (Santos). Basta more than 15 years ago. It was nerve wracking but Tita Charo, the giggly Tita Charo was there to make me feel as if I were the best singer in town, though I knew, I wasn’t in my best element, but she made me feel so secure that I never forgot that day.

She would always be there to back me up. Halimbawa, sa I Do, naniwala siya kila Direk Lauren na I can do it. Isa siya sa mga tao na naniniwala na I can do it, kahit ako, minsan hindi naniniwala sa sarili ko. “Kaya mo yan. You just have to do it,” sabi niya. To me, it’s like “how can you see this and I don’t?” She would always validate me. When God made a special package, she was one of them, at ipinadala siya sa Pilipinas.

Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo

Daniel: Tita Charo for me, siya ang larawan ng napaka-eleganteng boss, malumanay, graceful at higit sa lahat, “beauty and brains.”

Kathryn: Feeling ko siya yung someone na pwede mong makausap or malapitan if you have questions or if you need anything.

Willie Revillame

Charo Santos for me, is the light. She is the candle. She is the chandelier, not just in ABS (CBN), but in the industry, not just for artists, but also for production people. She’s what you call “First Lady ng Broadcasting TV.”

CSC-C is for ‘comfort,’ she comforts you. S is for ‘sweetness.’ C is for ‘communication.’ She communicates comfort because of her sweetness.

Kim Chiu

CSC taught me: 1. To love my job pero… 2. Wag ko kalimutan yung sarili ko. Before she would tell me, “Kailangan mo talaga kumain para bigyan pa kita ng work.”

The way she talks kasi it’s very sincere, parang hindi niya lang iyon sinasabi para mayroon siyang sabihin. She really talks to you like you’re her own daughter.

Eugenio “Gabby” Lopez III

My very first impression of Charo? Probinsyana. Barrio lass. Very innocent. Very conservative. But as it turns out, she is very driven, intense and passionate individual. All these things came out later on. In the beginning she strikes you as somebody who will fall apart at the first problem, and like any bamboo, she did not fall apart. She bent with the winds and then she came whipping right back. If you ever wronged her, she will get you. There’s no doubt about that. She is a very intense individual and very passionate about what she does, which is important because this business can consume you. You can work at it for 24 hours a day, and there is still so much to be done. The pressure is always unrelenting but those who thrive and flourish in this kind of setting are like steel that has been forged in the hottest of fires. They become diamonds that glitter in our constellation of stars. And that is Charo.
