The road to stardom hasn’t been especially easy for ever-mysterious hunky actor Paulo Avelino. Push.com.ph traces his journey from reality show contestant to one of the most bankable leading men today.
1. StarStruck elimination (2006)

He was eliminated from the Top 8 in the StarStruck 4 compettition where Aljur Abrenica was named as the Ultimate Hunk and Jewel Mische, the Ultimate Sweetheart. There was of course the possibility that he could’ve just faded into obscurity after losing out on the title. However, the exact opposite happened to Paulo even if he was first only offered minor roles.
2. Major break (2008)

It was only two years later on the soap Babangon Ako At Dudurugin kita when he got a supporting role break. The remake of the 1989 film coincidentally headlined by fellow Kapuso-turned-Kapamilya stars JC de Vera and Marvin Agustin, together with Yasmien Kurdi and Angelika dela Cruz. During the same year, Paulo also debuted on the big screen with the Metro Manila Film Festival entry Desperadas 2.
3. Transfer to ABS-CBN (2011)

Three years later, Paulo switched networks and became a Kapamilya because according to him he wanted to “step out of his comfort zone and reinvent himself as an actor.” While he wasn’t able to snag a titular role at the get go, Paulo’s first Kapamilya project was on primetime through the now-defunct soap 100 Days to Heaven.
4. Sayaw ng Dalawang Kaliwang Paa (2011)

Although the role was somewhat out of his comfort zone, Paulo expertly portrayed the role of a bisexual in the above-mentioned Cinemalaya entry opposite Rocco Nacino. This film earned him his first Gawad Urian Best Actor trophy.
5. Walang Hanggan (2012)

While it took a year before he was given a banner role, Paulo waited patiently and it eventually paid off after he landed a role in Walang Hanggan. The hit primetime series had him acting alongside multi-awarded star and Urian awardee Coco Martin and Julia Montes. There he played the role of Nathan who displayed interest on Katerina, Julia’s character who is the love interest of Coco’s character Daniel/Emil.

He once again landed a spot in a primetime soap in 2013 titled Sana Bukas Pa Ang Kahapon together with Albert Martinez and Bea Alonzo. Now, Paulo is best known for his character Carlos Antonio on the currently airing primetime soap Bridges of Love where he stars together with Maja Salvador and Jericho Rosales.
