Ryan Rems has been keeping audiences entertained after winning on It’s Showtime. Here are some fun facts about the comedian who wants to rock and roll the world.

On life before comedy

Ryan admitted that he was actually quiet in school. “Tahimik talaga ako eh. High school, college, tahimik talaga ako pero maganda lang talaga ang timing ko.” He shared that he used to be a teacher before he became a comedian. “Iba’t ibang trabaho [ang ginawa ko] pero pinakamatagal kong raket ‘yung online English teaching at ‘yung informal English teaching. Informal kasi wala akong lisensya so maliit lang siya na classroom. Minsan [kaunti] lang siyang estudyante, apat, mga Asians, mga Chinese, Koreans ‘yung clients namin madalas.”

He acquired a degree in Communication Arts. “[Nag-aral ako] sa CEU, namili ako ng course na walang board exam, cute lang,” he said.

On Family

Ryan Rems has been living in Quezon City since he was six years old. His family is currently residing in Metro Manila. He has two siblings and all of them in the family are already professionals. His mother’s province is Camilng, Tarlac where he lived before the age of six, while his father is from Zamboanga de Sur.

“Dito na ako lumaki, 6 years old ako ng tumira dito. Tumira ako sa Novaliches, Q.C. ‘Yung panganay namin taga Q.C. din orthodontist siya pero hindi ako nagpa-braces sa kanya dahil ayaw kong maging matinee idol, tapos [‘yung] pangalawa computer engineering,” he shared.

After rising to fame upon being hailed as the grand champion of It’s Showtime’s “Funny One”, Ryan relayed that his family is still not used to his popularity. “Mas matagal mag-sink in sa kanila. Kahapon nag-family dinner kami [tapos] biglang may tumabi sa akin. Para sa kanila kalurky lang. [Pero] na-orient naman ako ng lifestyle nina Elvis Presley noon so sinasakyan ko na [lang ang mga fans].”

On Love Life

Ryan is currently single. His last relationship was three years ago which lasted for four years. “Three years ago na ‘yun eh. Na-meet ko lang siya sa Ortigas palakad-lakad lang non tapos booking-booking. Four years naman may mga pag-ibig na nagsimula sa booking eh,” he stated.

When asked why he is still single, the comedian responded, “Andiyan sila Jose Rizal, si Mr. President, why not me?” He added that he is still not that eager to settle down. During his interview in Funny One’s grand presscon, he relayed why he is still single. 'Kasi bago ako sumalang dito, so-sweldo, go-good time, so-sweldo, go-good time tapos nakalimutan kong 36 na pala ako tapos parang okay lang wala naman akong hinahanap kasi pag may pumatol na chicks tinitingnan ko lang pagpumasa siya sa audition ko,” he said.

On what he is looking for a girl, he quipped, “’Yung mura lang yung table charge.”

On his rock band history

Before he became a comedian, Ryan Rems was an active band member. “Dati kasi mahilig ako sa banda tapos ‘yung mga nasasalihan kong banda parang waley naman. Nagbanda naman ako dati from age 16-30 years old. Kasi pag 30 ka na, sa akin lang, pag 30 ka na wala ka pang album offer parang nawawalan ka na ng charisma for college girls or high school girls.”

They used to play blues and rock when he was still in a band. “Blues Rock tapos may mga cover din. Pangalan ng banda ko inspired by Seiko Films, Huwag Magpinsan Tayo tapos LBM Experience, tapos Tabo.”

On his famous tagline

The comedian is very popular with his “rock and roll to the world” tagline. Ryan explained that he got it from a famous rock star. “Galing kay Joey Pepe Smith ‘yan. Pag nag au-autograph siya ‘yun ang sinusulat niya ‘Rock and Roll to the World, Joey Pepe Smith’ tapos ginagamit ko ‘yan pag nag-iisip ako ng susunod na joke.”

On his showbiz plans

Now that he is in show business, Ryan shared that he has a simple goal. “Simple lang kasi plano ko sa buhay eh, aabot ng hanggang bukas kasi darating ang araw hindi natin mararamdaman ang bukas,” he stated.
