She has said her piece about Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach’s win, about her co-Colombian beauty queen Ariadna Gutierrez, but Binibining Pilipinas Inc. chairperson, Madame Stella Marquez-Araneta has yet to speak about host Steve Harvey and his major hosting gaffe.
It may be recalled that Steve mistakenly crowned Miss Colombia as Miss Universe when Miss Philippines should’ve taken the crown. It was even Madame Stella who revealed that Pia and Ariadna have already spoken after the pageant.

“I think that was a horrible moment in the Miss Universe pageant because it hurt two girls at the same time. Everybody was shocked when it happened. From where I was seated, I could see clearly the anguish of Miss Colombia and the embarrassment of Pia. I think everybody felt the same way,” she began to recall in an interview with Philippine Star’s Ricky Lo.

According to Madame Stella, while it can happen to any host, she never suspected that Steve committed a mistake while announcing the winner.

“Maybe he read the cue card the wrong way…you know, he read baliktad. Usually, in our contests, the way we announce the names, we start from the lower placer to the winner…from the second runner-up to the first runner-up and then to the winner,” she speculated.

“He’s a veteran emcee but it was the first time he was hosting a beauty pageant. So maybe he wasn’t used to how the sequence of announcing the winners’ names should be done. I don’t know,” she pointed out.
