012616-pia_main.jpgMiss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach has finally spoken up about her future tax remittances.

In an interview after her homecoming press conference, Pia maintained that she pays her taxes accordingly even before her Miss Universe victory.

'I pay my taxes when I was with ABS-CBN… as an actress; when I was with Binibini, so I’ll continue on doing that as long as I’m earning money here, like everybody else,' she said.

But Pia reiterated that she could not be taxed for the crown because it is not hers.

The current Miss Universe crown is estimated to be worth $300,000 (or more than P14 million). The Czech-made crown was encrusted with diamonds, blue topaz, blue sapphire, crystal, and gold which was first presented in the pageant in 2014.

It was 63rd Miss Universe winner Paulina Vega from Colombia who first wore the crown before it was passed on to Pia during last year’s pageant. The crown will reportedly used by the pageant for 10 years.

Issues about Pia’s tax duties cropped up after BIR Commissioner Kim Henares, in a recent interview, mentioned that the former is not exempted.

But Cagayan de Oro Representative Rufus Rodriguez recently filed a resolution at the House of Representatives seeking to exempt the third Filipina Miss Universe from paying taxes.

The same resolution would also seek to recognize Pia’s win and bestow upon her the title Ambassador of Good Will.
