Promising young actress Therese Malvar has made a name for herself by bagging international awards. Many people may not know her yet so Push has listed down some things you should know about this young actress.


1. From Teri to Therese


Therese was first known as Teri Malvar but in 2014, she changed her screen name to her real name, Therese Malvar.

2. She was just 12 years old when she auditioned for Ang Huling ChaCha ni Anita



In Therese’s Facebook bio, it said that she was just 12 years old when she auditioned for the film Ang Huling Cha Cha ni Anita which was an entry to the 2013 Cine Filipino Film Festival. She won her first Best Actress award and even bested superstar Nora Aunor in the said category.





“She had no acting background and the only experience she had was joining declamation contests in schools. But I never gave up on her. I saw in her the character and sincerity of young Anita. We did a lot of workshops and in every workshop she surprised me with improvements on her character. I am very proud on what she has become now,” direk Sig said.

3. She was also nominated as New Movie Actress of the year



The Philippine Movie Press Club nominated Therese in 2014 as the New Movie Actress of the Year. Unfortunately, she didn’t win but was grateful anyway.

4. Therese is part of Cinema One Originals’ ‘Hamog’



The film directed by Ralston Jover gave her more Best Actress awards. Therese won as Best Actress not only in the Cinema One Originals but also in Moscow International Film Festival.

5. ‘Hamog’ was also recognized in Shanghai, China



Hamog also won the Outstanding Artistic Achievement Award in the Shanghai International Film Festival. Therese even had the chance to meet Emir Kusturica, jury President of the Golden Goblet Awards.

6. She got another award at the New York International Film Festival


Therese recently got her Screen International Rising Asia Star Award from the New York Asian Film Festival last Friday, July 1 at the Lincoln Film Center.

7. Therese does workshops

Therese might have been born with natural talent in acting but she also worked hard to hone her acting skills. She also signed with GMA Artists Center.

8. She is a descendant of General Malvar

General Miguel Carpio Malvar was a Filipino general who served during the Philippine Revolution and subsequently during the Philippine–American War. Therese attended Gen. Malvar’s 150th birth anniversary.
