Comedienne Pokwang made a cookbook titled, Patikim, Pokie, which is dedicated to moms who are on a budget and love to cook traditional Filipino dishes. In Spotlight on Pokwang with Star Magic, a series of clips explained why she decided to make a cookbook. She revealed she learned to cook by watching her mom at a very young age.

Mamang has gone a long way from being the foodless girl from Antipolo to having a mansion in her hometown and to being considered as one of the most reliable comediennes in the country. But these achievements just won’t stop her from dreaming some more. Mamang revealed that, on top of having her own restaurant, she also hopes to have her own cooking show with her daughter Mae, who is now on her last year as a Culinary Arts student. @itspokwang27 #SpotlightOnPokwang

Although many can vouch for her tasty dishes, Mamang is well aware of the fact that she doesn’t have any formal education when it comes to cooking. She considers this fact as one of the challenges that she faced while making her first cookbook. Mamang recalls that the first dish that she actually learned to cook was Ginisang Sardinas na May Repolyo when she was only in fourth grade. Since she started young and she’s used to cooking traditional dishes, Pokwang decided to come up with her cookbook titled “Patikim, Pokie,” which she hopes to become handy for all the moms out there who are working with a tight budget. @itspokwang27 #SpotlightOnPokwang

Aside from being a sharp and witty comedienne, Mamang is also loved for her tasty dishes—especially her famous laing, sopas and Pokie’s suka. Mamang has learned how to cook at such a very young age while watching her mother cook traditional recipes at home. In terms of cooking techniques and methods, Mamang learned what she knows now from her father who was a former cook at the Manila Chronicle hotel. While she has gone a long way in cooking, Mamang happily shared that she dreams of cooking more French cuisine for Papang Lee O’Brian. @itspokwang27 #SpotlightOnPokwang

One person who can also attest to Pokwang’s motherly nature, not only to Mae, but even to her other friends is Chokoleit. The two met in 2004 and has since been called as ChokWang. Chokoleit especially loves the fact that Mamang cooks well and that they both enjoy spending time and chatting at home. While he has learned a number of things through their 13 years of friendship, he especially treasures the fact that Mamang taught him to keep his connections with his friends and to always come on time so as not to cause inconvenience to other people. Quite interestingly, Chokoleit, who has traveled to many countries with Mamang for various international shows, revealed that she actually has a fear of riding planes. @itspokwang27 #SpotlightOnPokwang

As a mother, Pokwang admits that she’s really very protective of her unica hija Mae. From her formerly distant relationship with Mae, Mamang worked her way to win her daughter’s trust by smothering her with love and attention. To date, she remains grateful that she and Mae have become really close, in that they can openly talk about their personal problems to each other and that they really make it a point to support each other in their own endeavors. @itspokwang27 #SpotlightOnPokwang
