Eric Quizon on returning to directing after nine years: ‘I am my own worst critic’

<div> </div>In his first Regal Films project this year, actor-director Eric Quizon admitted it’s good to be back behind the camera again after a long hiatus in film. “It’s been nine years since I last directed a movie. Yung ibang pelikula na ginawa ko was with my dad. So pagkatapos nun puro TV na so siyempre iba yung demands at saka yung pressure sa TV. Sa pelikula kasi mas relaxed eh. Pag sa TV hanggang umaga ang taping eh,” he shared.Having grown up in show business, Eric said he has set standards for himself both in front and behind the camera. This is why he did his best with My 2 Mommies. “I am my own worst critic. Pag meron akong ginawa tapos hindi ko gusto, parang nagagalit ako sa sarili ko. But this movie somehow I feel good about it. Pag pinapanuod ko siya, parang okay pa rin yung feeling ko a movie. I’m not gloating but I just want to say that I’m very happy with my work,” he said.In his new romantic comedy, Eric said he was happy with the work done by his cast which includes Paolo Ballesteros, Solenn Heussaff, and Maricel Soriano. “Mabilis siya na storya pero may kurot sa puso. Rarely can you see actors who can do comedy and drama. Usually kasi pag nag-da-drama napapagod sila na stereotype na ganun, naiilang sila na i-contort yung mukha nila, ganun. Ang comedians kasi mas sketchwork ang ginagawa nila, tinotodo nila to elicit the laugh. So bihira ka makakita ng ganun. Konti lang yung mga ganyan,” he explained.As for the Diamond star’s appearance in his film, Eric said he only wanted to highlight what people miss most about the veteran actress. “Tinanong ako kung anong kakaibang binigay ni Maricel dito sa pelikulang ito at sabi ko wala siyang kakaibang binigay dito. People miss her. People want to see the old Maricel so that’s what I told her. ‘Maria your portrayal should be you. Basta ikaw kung ano ikaw,’ and that’s what she did. Kaya yung mga taong nakapanuod ng pelikula, whenever they see Maria natutuwa sila kasi parang wow she’s back. So ang sarap din siya kasing panuorin kasi na-miss talaga siya ng mga tao,” he added.
