In Goyo, the second film in the national hero trilogy of director Jerrold Tarog and TBA Studios after Heneral Luna, Epy Quizon reprises his role as the Apolinario Mabini. His story picks up right after the first movie.

“After the death of Heneral Luna, after one month parang nag-resign si Mabini as the prime minister of the president. At that time may galit na siya sa mga sitwasyon na nagyayari at parang hindi na rin siya sang-ayon sa mga patakaran ni presidente. More or less ganun. Actually parang naging detractor siya ni Aguinaldo,” he shared during the Goyo press launch held last August 23 in Quezon City.

Epy admitted that out of the many different roles he has played in his career, the role of Mabini holds a special place in his heart.

“Mabini kasi for me is my hero. Di ba dito sa atin you go for Rizal, nagtatalo sila kung si Rizal or Bonifacio. Para sa akin talaga si Mabini ever since bata ako. Kasi para sa akin it’s more of the mental strength niya na someone who cannot walk but still very influential in how the Philippines decides on how to do things,” he explained.

The actor looks forward to audiences catching the film starting September 5 and is proud of the work they have done on the film.

“Nung nakuha ko talaga yung role may malaking saya sa puso ko dahil para sa akin isa siya sa mga heroes ko. Isa siyang malaking hero na kinalakihan ko. So it’s a real honor for me to be part of our history through the character or Mabini. So yun yung pinaka-suwerte sa pagkakuha ko sa role na yun. Dun ako pinakamasaya,” he added.
