Ogie Alcasid on why he will never respond to a basher: ‘Hindi ka mananalo dun eh’

After writing <a href="https://entertainment.abs-cbn.com/tv/shows/thegeneralsdaughter/main">The General’s Daughter</a> theme song performed by his wife Regine Velasquez, Ogie Alcasid said he looks forward to serenading music lovers before Valentines in his Master of Love concert with National Artist for music Ryan Cayabyab on February 13 at Resorts World Manila. During the concert press conference, the talented singer-songwriter and former OPM president was quick to deny that he had any political plans this year despite his closeness to former president Noynoy Aquino a few years ago. “No (laughs). That wasn’t political at all. That was just service. I just wanted to serve and help Noynoy at that time because he needed help in some areas that he was kind of blindsided like entertainment. But that’s all it was,” he said.Ogie said he would rather focus on helping improve the local music industry than have political ambitions. “Okay na itong OPM for me. That for me is service towards my colleagues and yun na yun. I don’t think I have the tools to be a politician. I don’t really like politics. I don’t know. It’s not me. I’d rather watch Netflix or something like that (laughs),” he said.With more and more celebs being outspoken and open about their political views, Ogie sees no problem in the two circles overlapping in a way. “You know everybody has a platform and obviously actors and singers have a wide platform and so I think they take it upon themselves to say something even risking their reputation because they owe to the ones that listen to them or watch them or find inspiration with their lives. So I’m all for it,” he said.The talented artist did admit that he hopes celebrities would hold back from negative interactions online. “What I don’t like though is when sometimes they put themselves in a position where they’re already arguing with a netizen. I don’t think artists should go that way because hindi ka mananalo dun eh. So that’s your platform and you have all the right to say what you want to say, then do it. Within the norms of what’s legal and what’s fair. Ako dun lang ako. I have no qualms about it. My stand kasi is just different now. Hindi na ako bakit ganito, bakit ganyan. I’m more proactive. Kung may butas yung kalye eh di takpan natin. Let’s not complain, just do something. Nandun ako sa ganun,” he explained.

Ogie Alcasid will be spending his pre-Valentine’s day with national artist Ryan Cayabyab.
