Dimples Romana reveals she didn’t have good skin growing up, making her feel insecure during her teenage years.

The Kadenang Ginto star recalled the days when she worked with John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo in the 2003 teleserye Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay where she had pimples all over her face.

And just the same way with the skin, growing up I didn’t have good skin. Ma-coconnect the dots mo,” she said during a presscon for Skin Magical where she was introduced as the brand’s newest ambassador.

According to Romana, she can particularly relate to those who are struggling to have clear skin because she herself went through it in the past.

Romana, who started in showbiz at the age of 12, shared her advice for those struggling to have clearer and fairer skin.

“At this point in your life, for example, twenties ka, hindi mo pa kailangan ng anti-aging. Siguro dun ka sa maintenance muna kung talagang stressful ang work mo or kunwari long hours ka or kunwari BPO ka. Or nurse ka na matagal ‘yung working hours mo, lagi kang nai-stress, then you can go for a much heavier kind of skin routine. But for me, growing up, dahil artista na ako twelve years old pa lang ako, napakalaki ng insecurities ko,” she said.

With the rise of video streaming platforms like YouTube where old videos are found, Romana says one could choose to take care of his/her skin or risk one's face full of blemishes to get immortalized online.

So imagine mo parang na-immortalize na ‘yung pimple mo,” she said.

She went on: “‘Yung pimple mo na sixteen years old ka, hanggang ngayon pwede nilang pag-usapan. So ang sa akin, hangga’t kaya mo makahanap ng produkto na mahihiyang ka, stay with it, stick with it, and make sure that it works well for you and at the same time alam mo when to use it. So okay, sunblock tayo ngayon. Pero akin lang, growing up I didn’t have great skin.”

Romana, who considers having good skin an investment for celebrities like her, shared her thoughts on the clamor for good skin even for those who do not appear on screen like her.

“It only started when I realized puhunan ko ‘to, ito ang pinagkakakitaan ko, kailangan kong ayusin ‘to. Kung hindi mo man gustong maputi, ‘yun bang makinis ‘no?”
