James Reid has finally broken his silence on the social media backlash over his decision to reject reggae singer Luke Baylon as judge of singing competition ‘Idol Philippines’.

The actor, along with fellow judges Vice Ganda and Moira dela Torre, said no to the contender from Tuguegarao City for technical reasons after singing his own version of Alicia Keys’s ‘If I Ain’t Got You’ on their May 12 episode, much to the dismay of some viewers.

Through Twitter on Wednesday, May 15, James addressed the controversy by, first and foremost, shedding light on his reasons for turning down Luke.

“Like I said, Luke Baylon is a good singer but we’re looking for the total package. Wait till you see the 12 finalists. You’ll see why I said he wasn’t ready. For now, I wish Luke all the success is his music career. That rendition of If I Ain’t Got You was sick,” he said.

The ‘Never Not Love You’ star then explained that the decision did not come easy for his part as a judge.

“You have no idea how hard it is to crush peoples dreams right in front of them. That’s the burden we carry as judges to try and give one special person a chance of a lifetime. Just wait. The auditions isn’t even the hardest part,” he added.

Aside from James, Vice, and Moira, Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez is also part of the ‘Idol Philippines’ jury.
