Barely a year since his last teleserye “Ngayon At Kailanman” aired, Joshua Garcia will take on yet another lead role in a new series billed as a “gothic romance” scheduled for a release this year.

During the cast’s promotional shoot for “The Killer Bride” held Tuesday, the 21-year-old actor said he’s thrilled for his small screen comeback as Elias, the love interest of Janella Salvador’s character.

“Ako ‘yung happy happy lang dito. Parang walang problema, pero dadating ‘yung time na, pagsususpetsahan ko kasi si Janella eh, parang imbestigador ako doon,” he said.

Joshua described his working relationship with his new leading lady as “professional”.

“Na-enjoy ko… Masaya siya kasama. Relax lang kami sa taping lahat,” he said.

“I’m happy, siyempre,” he added, when asked about his thoughts on their tandem, coined “JoshNella”, earning raves from fans as early as now. “Kasi may sumusuporta. Kasi, sabi ko nga, ‘yung mga artista, makakita lang ‘yan ng konting suporta sa mga tao, nakakagaan na talaga magtrabaho. Parang, ‘Gagawin ko ‘to for them para proud sila sa akin’. Ganun.”

Aside from Joshua, fans are anticipating the return of the ‘Wildflower’ star, the woman who brought to life the iconic character Lily Cruz, Maja Salvador, who is set to portray the titular role in “The Killer Bride”. It centers on the story of Camilla, whose ghost will seek revenge through Emma, a mortuary makeup artist (Janella), after apparently getting killed on the day of her wedding to a scion of a rival family, Vito (Geoff Eigenmann).

Directed by Dado Lumibao, the series is scheduled for a release this August. It stars Eddie Gutierrez, Aurora Sevilla, Lara Quigaman, Ara Arida, James Blanco, Sam Concepcion, Cris Villanueva, Jobelle Salvador, Dominic Ochoa, Alexa Ilacad, Loren Burgos, Pamu Pamorada, Malou de Guzman, Pepe Herrera, Eric Nicolas, Keanna Reeves, and Neil Coleta.

NOT AN END TO ‘JOSHLIA’

“Hindi mawawala ‘yung JoshLia.”

This was Joshua’s promise when the name of his onscreen partner and former flame Julia Barretto cropped up during the interview.

“Ang mensahe ko for the [fans] is ‘wag na silang malungkot… Gagawa pa rin kami ng mga pelikula, may mga projects pa kaming pagsasamahan,” he continued.

Of their recent decision to go back to being “the best of friends”, Joshua said that he’s nevertheless happy and indeed even grateful about how things are going between him and Julia.

“Kung ano man ang mangyari, kung magkabalikan man or something, ‘di natin alam. Only God knows,” he said.

“Special [pa rin siya], sobra. Mahal ko pa rin ‘yung taong ‘yun. Tagal namin nagsama at nagkatrabaho, eh. At least, hindi nawala ‘yung friendship namin. ‘Yun na lang pinagpapasalamat ko. Sa ngayon muna, best friends muna po kami. Kumbaga, mag-stick muna kami doon kasi doon po kami mas magaan sa isa’t isa,” he added.

After their team-up in romance comedy film “I Love You, Hater” in 2018, the two will return in the big screen via zombie “Block Z” this year.

“Excited na ako sa mga tao na mapanood nila ‘to kasi nakakagulat!,” he told.

“Proud ako kay direk. Idea ni direk lahat ‘yun eh,” he said of filmmaker Mikhail Red, who had earlier assured his and Julia’s professional relationship on the set amid their rumored breakup last month, before adding, “[‘Yung professionalism], ’di talaga dapat mawala ‘yun. Importante ‘yun sa trabaho namin.”

Aside from JoshLia, the film also stars Ian Veneracion, Ina Raymundo, Maris Racal, Mccoy de Leon, and Dimples Romana.
