‘Iska’ lead star Ruby Ruiz names some of the young stars who have acting potential

Over the course of her professional career both as an actress and an acting coach, Ruby Ruiz has had the pleasure of working with some of the best actors in local showbiz today – ranging from the likes of screen icons Vilma Santos and Nora Aunor, to stars from the younger generation such as Carlo Aquino and Joshua Garcia. Then perhaps it says a lot that Nadine Lustre made a lasting impression on Ruby even then when she was only starting to pick up steam as an actress. The two worked together for the popular television series On The Wings of Love in 2015 as Leah Olivar and Lolit Carpio, respectively. “Nadine is very good. Sabi lang sa kanya, ‘Dito, dapat kilig na kilig ka.’ Alam mo, kuha niya kaagad. Bilib ako sa kanya,” she added. Aside from Nadine, Ruby has always been a huge fan of Jodi Sta. Maria and, although she has yet to work with her, Angelica Panganiban. “[Si Jodi], magaling siya sa breaking down her scene into units. ‘Yung mga shifting shifting, she’s very good at that,” she said. “Gustong gusto ko rin si Angelica. When it came to male stars, Ruby said that both Donny Pangilinan and Edward Barber show great potential as actors. Meanwhile, she also couldn’t praise enough the acting chops of Julia Barretto and Joshua Garcia, collectively known as the hit tandem JoshLia, whom she worked with in their last teleserye together Ngayon at Kailanman. Ruby explained the significant role acting coaches like her play in the scene, and why even those who who do not need coaching seeks help from her every so often. “’Yung direktor kasi marami nang iniintindi, so you don’t expect him to really motivate you.
