Enzo Pineda on baring skin in his Cinemalaya film ‘Malamaya’: ‘Pinaghirapan ko yan’

Playing the role of Sunshine Cruz’s younger lover in the Cinemalaya entry Malamaya , Enzo Pineda said he is happy to finally be part of the local film festival. “To be honest Malamaya is a dream come true for me. Actually part talaga ng bucket list ko is to be part of Cinemalaya. Nag-audition ako last year for this year at akala ko hindi na matutuloy yung pangarap ko but a few months ago binigyan ako ng pagkakataon to continue my dream. And as an actor, to be part of Cinemalaya is a dream come true,” he shared.In order to prepare for his role as a photographer who ends up in a rollercoaster relationship with Sunshine’s character, Enzo said it took almost three months of preparing his body in the gym. “Alam ko naman yung papasukan ko sa pelikula na ito and hinanda ko talaga yung sarili ko to bare myself and to be honest with everybody pinaghirapan ko yan. Nag-gym ako payat kasi yung legs ko. So I made a point na mag-workout ako especially to work on my puwet kasi alam ko makikita sa pelikula (laughs). Hindi ako madalas mag leg workout pero alam ko films are immortal so parang I had to make the extra effort para worth it naman sa mga viewers yung makikita nila. It was very challenging. I had the mindset na kung ipapakita ko, if I’m going to show some skin, I have to make the most out of it and I have to be ready. Kasi kung hindi ako handa I wouldn’t even have the confidence to show something like that on screen,” he admitted.Enzo said the opportunity to do a more daring role is secondary to fulfill one of his bucket list items when it comes to acting. “Hindi kasi yung goal ko talaga sa Cinemalaya is to explore my craft as an actor so kung ano mang kailangan ng pelikula, may mindset ako na I had to be ready for it. Kasi I wouldn’t grow as an actor kung lilimitahan ko sarili ko sa mga bagay na ganito. I don’t think naman I’m competing with somebody so our film is unique and I just hope na magustuhan ng mga viewers because it’s not just about showing skin but it’s also about the life of an artist. Yung film namin kasi fini-feature niya yung mga artists and different works of art so it’s just about my relationship with Ms. Shine but it’s something more than that,” he explained.The Malamaya star said he is thankful to his leading lady for making their scenes easier to do even if this is this first time working together. “There are sexy scenes, there are daring scenes and I feel like during my intimate scenes with Sunshine hindi ko magagawa ito kung hindi dahil sa kanya. May mga times na we have to face them and I felt na binubukas ko yung buong kaluluwa ko sa pelikula at sa mga tao sa paligid ko. And hindi biro yung mga ganitong klaseng pelikula because you’re exposing not just yourself but your bodies. So it was a tough experience pero with the help of our directors nagawan namin ng maganda yung mga eksena namin,” he shared.Despite his sexy physique, Enzo said he is not willing to frontal nudity. “I have my limitations. Hanggang dito lang. Siguro pag-isipan ko muna. I have to fully understand the film and hindi naman ako yung tao na tipong I’m going to do it just for the sake of exposing myself, magpapapansin ako. I have to see a bigger picture on why I’m doing this scene, why am I doing this character. So it has to be something bigger than that and ako tumatanggap ako ng mga roles not just for the thrill but I want it to have an impact on society. Maraming lessons actually makukuha sa film na ito. At sana tumatak yun sa mga tao,” he said.
