In her Instagram post, the talented director, who was also at the helm of films like Alone/Together and That Thing Called Tadhana revealed that Charlie was not their original choice to play the role. ‘Yung paghanap kay Fan Girl, nagpabago ng mantra ko sa buhay to ‘everything happens for a reason’ because the truth is, we already found our fan girl but she had to back out a week before the shoot,” she admitted.

Direk Tonet also shared that Charlie was chosen after auditioning hundreds of hopeful actresses. “After choosing our fan girl out of 670++ girls, nag-acting workshops na kami, nasukatan ng damit, biglang wala na kami uli fan girl. Pero nagpaka-Zen ako, at laging binubulong sa sariling ‘everything happens for a reason’ and ‘trust the process’ because cinema is the process, and when we found our fan girl again nung audition, we knew it was her...three days before our shoot (!!!). Kabaliw. Pero kailangan lang manalig. At nung ginagawa na namin ang pelikula, alam na namin - tama nga, siya nga si Fan Girl,” she said.

The 24-year-old actress, who was also part of films like Seven Sundays, Finally Found Someone, and Loving in Tandem, was a perfect fit, according to the Fan Girl director. “Charlie Dizon is our FAN GIRL. Salamat sa buong pusong pagganap. Ramdam ko ang dedikasyon mo sa proyekto, pati ang pagpunta mo sa Baclaran Church para ipagdasal ito 🤣🤣🤣

In Fan Girl, Charlie plays the role of Jane, a high schooler obsessed with her celebrity idol Paulo Avelino (who plays himself). The unlikely duo end up stuck together in a mansion and Jane discovers that the more she gets to know her idol, she realizes why they say never meet your heroes.
