Miss Colombia 2015 Ariadna Gutierrez has spoken following the backlash she received for likening her former Miss Universe competitor Pia Wurtzbach to a ghost.

In a recent interview, Ariadna said she never thought the Filipina-German beauty queen would win the crown as she and her fellow candidates rarely saw her, going as far as likening her to a “ghost.”

It can be recalled that host Steve Harvey mistakenly pronounced Ariadna as the winner of the beauty pageant back in 2015.

“I actually saw her twice during the competition, once at the dining area and during rehearsals. But a person like a… a ghost! You see her and never again, like the exit signs! Nobody saw her,” said Ariadna — who spoke in Spanish — as translated by website Pagaenthology 101.

She added: “I used to go with the Latinas but we sat with the Asians and I did not notice her. She was very solitary, too. I did not notice her and when I did, I did not think of her as my competition. That is the truth."

Ariadna made the comments in an interview with Miss Colombia 2017 Laura Barjum and YouTuber Hector Cermeno.

Meanwhile, Miss Bulgaria 2015 Radostina Todorova — who gained praises from Pinoy pageant lovers for the support she gave to Pia five years ago — came to Pia’s defense on social media for the second time.

Radostina said she recalls getting looked down on by Ariadna and her Latina friends whom she said were laughing at them for what they wore during the competition.

As quoted by website Entertainment News Portal, Radostina said: “Of course you didn't see her! I remember you were always laughing at us, at our clothes and jewelry, at our walk and talk. You were only with the other Latinas looking down on us!"

Adding that she will always see Pia as the rightful holder of the crown, she went on: “I stand behind my words and that's why we were all so happy Pia won. You need to be beautiful inside and out, not only looking like a Victoria's Secret model and act like the queen of England! You will never be, unless you start acting like a decent human being!"

In the comments section of her official Instagram account, Radostina said she feels baffled as to why Pia’s win remains an issue up to this day.

"I don't mean to offend anyone. But after 5 years still commenting on the winner this way ... as if she was nobody?! I mean, to be beautiful like Pia is something you don't do at the esthetician's cabinet, it's something you accomplish at school and at your community,” she said.

She added: “And not only Pia. I remember all of the beautiful women at this pageant! I remember them all because they were speaking, smiling and helping each other feel good about themselves! We were there to embrace beauty! And it has nothing to do with how you look but how you make people feel around you! That’s the beauty of being a queen! And Pia does it all. Period."

While Pia has yet to comment on the issue, Ariadna clarified her statement in the comments section of her Instagram account.

“[I never said Pia was undeserving of her win]. People don’t understand what I said. I feel so sad for the super nice [Filipinos] I’ve met in my life. They are not like this,” she said, as translated by Entertainment News Portal.

Pia is the third Filipina to win the Miss Universe competition, followed by Catriona Gray who snagged the crown back in 2018.

After winning the crown, Pia landed various magazine covers, film projects, and endorsement projects, among others.
