EXCLUSIVE: Gabri Panlilio pays tribute to the LGBTQ community with her new song ‘Liwanag’

<p>After releasing her single “A Mother’s Angel” for Mother’s Day earlier this year, 21-year-old classical crossover singer Gabri Panlilio aims to break barriers with her new song “Liwanag” which was just launched this month. Just like her previous singles, the former teen opera singer will showcase her signature sound in her latest song.</p><p>“I will always have that signature classical sound or the Gabri sound, well it’s classical pop. Hopefully when the time comes it be great to sing full on classical. The ultimate dream of mine is to open doors for a lot of local classical singers, as we have so many talented ones!” she told PUSH.</p><div> </div><blockquote class="instagram-media" music</strong></u></a></div><p>While working on “Liwanag”, Gabri said she wanted to pay tribute to the LGBTQ community by dedicating the song’s touching music video to them.</p><p>“The reason I wrote it because I was inspired by friends and from there I decided to turn it into a music video. I chose this concept as I have a lot of LGBTQ friends and relatives. Also Direk Niq Ablao is such an amazing director and very easy to work with. Such a nice vibe about her. We all had fun during the shoot! Aside from having a lot of LGBTQ friends and relatives. I wanted to showcase something relatable that would be able touch the community and put a smile on their faces. While filming the music video it was very genuine as the cast are true to themselves. College of Music, Gabri shared that she has been keeping herself productive during the pandemic by focusing on her online classes and writing her own music.</p><p>“It’s kind of difficult but its manageable. I also want to focus more on my studies na, since this year is coming to an end. But I still have some unreleased songs. Hopefully by next year I will be able to introduce them,” she added.</p><p>Gabri was the Philippines’ official representative to the ChildAid Asia music festival  at the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Center in Malaysia in 2016. She looks up to OPM artists like Bituin Escalante, Lea Salonga, and Regine Velasquez. In a previous interview, she shares, “Bituin is my favorite. She’s very powerful and the way she sings is so effortless. I like the way she sings. I’ve actually worked with her in Repertory Philippines. I watch her plays and I watch her concerts. Every time I see her I tell her she’s my idol. Lea Salonga is also one of the people I look up to. She has great diction and her voice is super crystal clear. Their styles are so different. They’re good in their own way. You can’t compare them,” she said.</p>
