After more than 25 years in showbiz, Mylene Dizon said she always welcomes the chance to mentor younger actors like Charlie Dizon who is currently playing her daughter in the new iWantTFC Original Series My Sunset Girl.

“I don’t mind at all. It’s one of the things that I enjoy doing sa set. And I think it’s one of the things or reasons why I’m also nanay ni ganito at nanay ni ganyan. Bukod sa mapapabilis ang trabaho pag nagtutulungan tayo, when you see kasi that the person is receptive, nakaka-enganyo di ba? Lalo na pag binulong sa iyo ng director na tama naman yung sinasabi mo. Pag minsan kasi hindi na sinasabi ng director, minsan lalapit na lang ako or maski wala sa akin yung camera, I’d still be there to support my co-actor. Hangga’t hindi naman ako pinagbabawalan ng director then I suppose tama yung ginagawa ko.

“I remember din naman kasi when I was starting out, sina Rey Ventura, sina Pen Medina, all of them, they were helping us out. Sila yung gumaganap na mga magulang namin. So I think it’s just natural to pay it forward di ba?” she said.

Mylene shared what sets apart her current onscreen daughter from other actresses she has worked with before.

“Ang dami ko ng anak. Super dami. Si Charlie I heard a lot of good things na about her nung kinukuwento ni direk Andoy (Ranay) itong project na ‘to. I couldn’t really picture her kasi hindi ko naman napanuod yung pelikula nilang dalawa ni Paulo (Avelino). Katulad nga nung mga nakatrabaho ko dati gaya nila Kathryn (Bernardo).

“Iba si Charlie maybe because Charlie came into the industry medyo mas mature na siya than them. She already had a mind of her own. She already knew what she wanted to do and she knew that she was responsible for her job. Hindi niya iaasa kay direk Andoy or kanino man. Inangkin niya. Kasi alam niya na kapag hindi niya ginalingan dito, siguro nga dahil sa background niya na matagal na niyang gustong pumasok ng ABS-CBN, she knew that this was something that she had to work for. Hindi ito bagay na it’s just going to land on my lap. She has a certain kind of maturity,” she explained.

Aside from her mother roles, Mylene has also been known for playing effective kontrabida characters throughout the years. The 44-year-old actress reveals the secret to her acting.

“Maybe studying the script and trying to find different ways to attack the character. Kasi minsan mahirap gawin ng madalian. Siguro yung pag-aaral ng script kailangan pag hihimayin ang script maging thorough. And you have to put back stories to your characters kasi kung wala, parang magiging ampao yung character. It’s not easy especially pag gumagawa ka ng soap, yearly may ginagawa kang bagong role. Nag-ri-rely na lang talaga sa paggawa mo ng research or sa imagination mo kung ano ba ang naging kuwento ng character mo kung bakit siya naging ganun,” she said.
