Director Dolly Dulu talks about creating a sequel to her MMFF film ‘The Boy Foretold By The Stars’

After all the positive feedback for the Metro Manila Film Festival entry The Boy Foretold By The Stars, director Dolly Dulu revealed the story behind the creation of its sequel, the latest iWantTFC original series Love Beneath The Stars.

“After ng movie, nag-message na yung Dreamscape sa amin na they wanted to continue this. Mas gusto nila yung series and mas okay din gumawa ng series compared sa movie. So yun yung isa sa main reasons. Gusto kasi nila mas makilala pa yung mga characters kasi sa series mas mahaba siya, episodic siya so yun yung naging goal namin. We wanted people to relate more kung sino ba talaga si Dominic at si Luke. So yun yung reason kung bakit siya ginawang series,” he said.

Compared to writing a movie script, direk Dolly said Love Beneath The Stars was a new challenge for him.

“Parang madali and mahirap. Mahirap kasi magsulat ng series. It’s actually my first time writing a series. I’ve produced mga series for iWant pero nung ako na mismo yung nagsulat ng series mahirap siya compared sa movie kasi para kang gumagawa ng pelikula every isang episode. Pero yung thing is sa series is lagi siyang may highs and may lows so it always has to end with a bang. Lagi siyang may ganun , may cliffhanger siya sa dulo. Eh sa pelikula isang dire-diretso lang siya. So dun ako nahirapan in terms of transitioning sa pagsusulat pero in terms of sa laman ng kuwento hindi ako nahirapan dun kasi siguro kilalang kilala ko na, actually sobrang dali ng buohin kasi kilala ko na yung mga characters ni Dominic at ni Luke (played by lead actors Adrian Lindayag and Keann Johnson respectively),” he shared.

With the six-episode digital series set to start on August 16, direk Dolly explained the difference in theme from the two BL projects.

“Siguro yung tema yun yung nagbago. Kasi the theme of the movie was really believing in one’s destiny and believing in your soulmate. And then yung theme kasi nitong series it focuses more on commitment. Yan yung pinaka tema ng six episodes na ‘to. Pinagtagpo na kayo ng tadhana, now the really challenge comes on how you stay committed to the relationship that fate brought to you. Dun ako umangkla. Hindi lang siya puro happy kilig moments. May maturity involved for all the characters kasi lahat sila may natutunan sa bawat isa at sa lahat ng nangyari sa pamilya, sa eskuwelahan at sa sarili,” he added.
