Director Darnel Villaflor sums up his teleserye ‘Flower of Evil’: ‘Isang napakagandang kuwento’

Looking back on the past four months since the debut of the Philippine remake of the South Korean 2020 hit series <a href="https://ent.abs-cbn.com/foe2022">Flower of Evil</a>, director Darnel Villaflor said the biggest challenge for him has always been adapting the show to the local audience.“The biggest challenge talaga is making it our own. Kumbaga, the instructions with our actors was really to bring out their very authentic acting of the characters. Kumbaga meron man tayong sinundan na kuwento, pero nilabas nila yung totoo nilang characters, yung very Filipino na characters,” he shared during the Flower of Evil finale presscon last October 4.<div><a href="https://push.abs-cbn.com/2022/6/23/fresh-scoops/flower-of-evil-cast-praise-lovi-poes-acting-200850">READ: ‘Flower of Evil’ cast praise Lovi Poe’s acting</a></div>With the show’s major production and cast of top caliber stars, direk Darnel hoped to inspire everyone to deliver their best despite the challenges of shooting a series during a pandemic.“In terms of mga eksena na nahirapan kami, madami pero probably leading to the finale, maraming maraming eksena na magkakasama sila, mahirap lagi kasi maraming makulit, maraming magulo (laughs). Pero ang pinaka-highlight talaga ng show na ‘to is our actors kasi nung nagsama-sama sila, they all wanted to produce isang napakagandang kuwento. Lahat sila, nadala nila yung emosyon ng buong produksiyon na gawing napakaganda ng programa para sa lahat ng manunuod na Pilipino. So naramdaman namin na may pressure na merong Korean version. Ang daming malalaking eksena with the entire series. Siguro one notable scene is the underwater scene nung pilot na ginawa namin na with and without water. Challenging na nakita ko si Lovi dun na naka-harness and everything. So Piolo push kung push sa lahat ng emotion. Siguro ang pinakamagandang napanuod ko dun is still the chemistry of Piolo and Lovi na first time nagka-work. Nung may kinunan kaming isang eksena, after watching it sa preview, sabi ko para silang totoong mag-asawa. With Lovi, we had our one on ones together, si sir Doods (Edu Manzano), si Piolo, si Paulo (Avelino) grabe, na pag sinalang magugulat ka na lang kung ano yung bigla niyang nagagawa. JC (De Vera) thank you for accepting the project siyempre. And everybody na nanuod, patuloy niyong panuorin yung finale namin this coming Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday,” he added. <a href="https://ent.abs-cbn.com/foe2022">Flower of Evil</a>’s finale episode is on October 9 and will be available via Viu, the Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live and A2Z. The Philippine remake of the hit South Korean series is directed by by Darnel Villaflor and Richard Arellano It also stars Joross Gamboa, Agot Isidro, Joem Bascon, Denise Laurel, Epy Quizon, Rita Avila, Jett Pangan, Pinky Amador, and Joko Diaz.
