My Father, Myself lead actor Jake Cuenca revealed that he is thankful that their movie has been a constant hot topic on social media over the past few weeks.

Netizens have had mixed reactions to the kissing scene he had with actor Sean De Guzman in the movie.

Jake shared that it makes him feel better knowing that people are talking about their movie rather than being simply just another entry to the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF).

“One thing is for sure, we’re thankful for the conversation. At the end of the day, that’s what we really want—for the movie to be hyped. For me, it’s more painful if no one talks about the movie at all,” he shared during the media conference.

The actor admitted that he sees the negative comments as well but chooses to focus on the positive ones. He revealed that netizens have been sharing that the premise of the film is a fresh, new concept for them.

A lot of people are commenting that they find the story beautiful and that they have never seen something like it before,” he added.

Co-star Dimples Romana agreed with him and shared her opinion on the controversial issue. She embraced the topic as an artist who wants to develop new and more interesting stories for the audience to appreciate.

“I’m most grateful for the people who are not just talking about it, but are also taking interest in it because that’s the most important first step," Dimples said.

"As artists and members of the creative team, we can’t keep telling the same stories again and again. There will always be people who will come up with a different twist to old tales, just like the premise of this movie,” she added.

My Father, Myself is directed by veteran filmmaker Joel Lamangan and is an official entry to this year’s MMFF.
