Malcolm Reid, the father of James Reid, has put an end to speculations that his son left the Philippines for good to start a new chapter abroad.

In an Instagram post, Mr. Reid said that the real reason his son went to Los Angeles in California is simply to record songs, as well as to visit his older brother Andrew whom he has not seen for years.

"That’s it. Anything else is basura… sorry to disappoint the fake newsmakers," Mr. Reid said in his post, which showed a photo of himself with James at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

It was only last week when his sister Chantal Calicdan confirmed that James had left the Philippines through an Instagram post showing her with the actor and their mother Emma MacDonald at the airport.

Prior to his departure, James also had a send-off party with his close friends and colleagues, as seen in photos he shared on Instagram Stories last week.

As he didn't disclose the purpose of his trip, rumors circulated that James had left the Philippines to pursue a career in the US. It can be recalled that back in 2020, the Filipino-Australian actor signed with Transparent Arts, an LA-based talent agency that aims to promote Asian-American artists.

Upon his arrival in LA last Friday, February 18, James received a warm welcome from his fans and avid supporters.

Since co-founding the record label Careless in 2019, James, who started out as an actor, has concentrated more on his music career. Last year, he released two singles, titled "Soda" and "Hello."
