After starring in films like Mahjong Nights and Taya last year, Angeli Khang has continued her path as a fast rising sexy star in her latest Vivamax film Silip Sa Apoy where she plays Emma, a woman who is a constant victim of domestic abuse from her husband (played by Sid Lucero). In real life, Angeli admitted she is no stranger to being a victim of abuse at home.

“I’ll be completely honest. I was abused by my dad for years, physically abused. And throughout those years, pinalaki ako ng mom ko as a Godly person kaya I never lost hope. I always pray everyday to God and thankfully naman, pumapasok ako sa school na may pasa sa mukha and ang pinapa-reason sa akin ng dad ko na sa sobrang kulit ko kunwari natamaan ng door. Until one day siguro answered prayer na nakita ng teacher ko yung mga cuts ko sa wrist and she asked me kung anong nangyari and I just burst out na, kasi it’s really hard for me to call someone dahil alam ko na uuwi ako sa taong nang-a-abuse sa akin, so I was really scared. Hanggang sa nung na-open up ko siya sa teacher ko, he asked me to call my dad and after that, when I told my dad na kailangan siya sa school, bigla na niya akong inuwi dito sa Pilipinas. So up until now I’m still affected by it but thankfully naman nasa mom’s side na ako and I’m grateful na after all those years, I’m claiming na 2022 is my year,” she shared.

The Fil-Korean actress clarified that times she was cutting her wrists when she was younger were not attempts to commit suicide.

“I was with my dad from 2011 to 2014 and yung mga cut sa wrists it’s not something that means na gusto ko magpakamatay but hindi ako nakaka-open up sa tao and whenever I open up to my friends, parang hindi siya kumpleto sa feeling ko. Parang yung comfort na gusto kong makuha para maging okay sa araw na yun, hindi ko siya nakukuha through talking. Whenever I feel pain, hindi siya pain for me. Pag may mga taong nakakita ng mga cuts, lagi nilang sinasabi na emo or ganyan, ganyan. But when you’re in that situation, cutting is something na parang dun ako nagiging comfortable and I know that it’s not right. And nung pina-psychiatrist ako dun ko na-realize na it’s not normal for me to fantasize about death or killing or about bad things,” she revealed.

Addressing those who have experienced the same thing as her and her latest role, the Silip Sa Apoy star gave some words of advice for her fellow women.

“I’ll never, ever tolerate abuse sa love kasi if you love that person there’s respect. And when you respect that person, kahit na murahin mo o sabihan mo ng masasakit na bagay hindi mo magagawa yun. To the women out there who is experiencing abuse and if you think that there’s no way out because trapped kayo financially or binabantaan kayo, there’s always a way out to what you are experiencing in your life and ask for help, love yourself and know your worth. Walk out when you know na dini-disrespect ka na ng tao. It’s not too late to start anew,” she said.

Watch Ricky Lee’s Silip Sa Apoy’ exclusively on Vivamax. Starring Angeli Khang, Paolo Gumabao, Sid Lucero, at Jela Cuenca. Directed by McArthur Alejandre.
