Regine Velasquez admits her voice has changed: ‘It doesn’t sound the same and I’m okay with that’

As one of the performers in this year’s Iconic concert, Regine Velasquez explained this show will be a follow up concert to her successful 2019 concert with Sharon Cuneta of the same name. The first staging even earning them an Aliw Award for Best Collaboration in a Concert. Update it lang kasi naka-three years na din yun. But basically we wanted to retain it kasi it’s our hits and plus yun yung magic kasi nung concert. It’s our songs na kino-combine namin. Abangan niyo na lang yung tangga namin (laughs). Basically it will be the same naman kasi feeling namin yung repertoire yung magic ng concert eh. We need to get out of our homes and start living again. We cannot be paralyzed. Ako nga ang feeling ko sa two years na yun it has robbed all of us of experiences, of everything. So it’s about time. Medyo okay okay naman tayo ngayon. Siyempre konting ingat pa rin. But kailangan natin ito. Like me personally I need it. I need to see a live audience again. I need to be on stage again. This has been my life.“For the audience naman, it’s the whole experience of going to the venue, seeing your friends there, and there’s a certain energy that you feel when you watch. It’s a whole experience talaga of watching a concert and performing. Siguro may protocols na tayo dito sa ating bagong normal. They’ll just have to wear their masks but para yun sa personal safety ng mga manunuod. I think a lot of us are vaccinated naman. A lot of people are used to it na rin eh so parang it’s really nothing. Second nature na for us nowadays to protect ourselves,” she said.<div><a href="https://push.abs-cbn.com/2022/3/23/fresh-scoops/ogie-alcasid-pumalag-sa-mga-nagsasabing-husband-199200">READ: Ogie Alcasid, pumalag sa mga nagsasabing ‘husband of Regine’ lang siya</a></div>The 51-year-old performer explained how singing helped get through pandemic during the past two years and how much she is looking forward to being reunited with Sharon Cuneta onstage again.“Nag-a-ASAP ako and I’m so happy that I can do that kasi ang buhay ko kumanta lang but during the pandemic siguro napapanuod niyo nag-fe-Facebook kami ng asawa ko kasi he’s encouraging me to sing kasi nagka-anxiety ako and singing really helped. Plus I also get to entertain people via internet na nasa bahay lang ako. So it helped me a lot. And then ngayon back to work na ulit ako and I’m so excited kasi I get to work with ate Sharon again. Kasi actually after nung concert namin three years ago, we were going to really tour the show but unfortunately nga nagkaroon ng pandemic so I’m so happy that we are finally touring this concert.“Isa siguro ito sa pinakamagandang concert na nagawa ko. Ang ganda ganda talaga ng lineup ng songs plus siyempre kasama ko yung bituing nangniningning forever. Real friendship is like this. We haven’t seen each other obviously in a long time pero nung nagkita kami parang continuation lang. Ganun lang yun,” she said. During the Iconic concert presscon, Regine also revealed how her voice has changed.”You know when you’re a woman there’s so many changes in your body when you give birth, I’m going through menopause, plus yung mga hormones it affects your voice. Nagbago na rin and kasi nung bata ako, parang kahit tulog ako kaya kong kumanta eh. But it’s not like that anymore and you know what, it’s okay. Because now that I actually feel yung medyo konting difficulties when singing, mas actually na-a-appreciate ko siya. Only because nga may konting effort. Dati kasi wala talaga. May effort lang.“Ganun lang naman talaga yun eh, you just have to get used to it again. There was a time I also wasn’t singing. Whenever I would do concerts lang diyan lang ako kakanta tapos the rest of the year I won’t do anything. Tapos magrereklamo ako bakit hirap na hirap ako yun pala kasi hindi ko lang siya ginagamit. But now that I’ve been using it, it’s a little bit easier but may effort talaga. My voice has changed.
