In an exclusive interview with Julius Babao and Christine Bersola, Baron Geisler opened up how he gave in again to alcohol addiction last December due to a misunderstanding between himself and his wife, Jamie Evangelista.

“Nag-relapse ako nung December and naging continuous siya up until last month, but now I’m back sa 12-step program na nakakatulong po sa akin,” the 39-year-old actor admitted.

To him, his addiction to alcohol has no cure and is no different from cancer or diabetes. “May allergic reaction po ako sa utak ko sa alak, I cannot stop. Once na matikman ko siya kailangan apat na araw po hanggang sa hindi na ako makatayo,” Baron shared.

According to the actor, he lost his empathy during his misunderstanding with his wife and he became selfish and didn’t take into account Jamie’s needs as well. However, Baron clarified in the interview that the two have not split at all––both are taking a break from each other. Both parties are working on their respective 12-step programs and they will give each other space during this time.

By the end of the program, Baron said he hopes to help those who are in the same situation as himself. He further added in the interview that he doesn’t want to make any promises and he’d rather focus on recovering first since according to the actor that it’s very hard to promise.

If there’s one thing that he has learned from this experience of relapsing, he understood that he’s indeed an alcoholic. “It is making me understand that I really am an alcoholic. You have to keep coming back to the program and work on your program,” he confessed.
