Sharon Cuneta and Regine Velasquez reveal their favorite moments with their moms

As everyone celebrates another Mother’s Day this weekend, celebrities like Iconic concert performers Sharon Cuneta and Regine Velasquez took the time to appreciate all they have learned from their parents while preparing for their live comeback concert next month. Sharon fondly recalled memories of bonding with their mom while doing public service.“The way my parents raised me, it was such a great balance. I was taught how to behave in certain surroundings. Like you would bring us to Malacañang one day and we would know how to behave and then bring us to a depressed area another day and we would know how to respect those people.“Because we were taught by example, not just by kuwento. My mom would bring us along pagka nag-a-assist through disaster relief. I would see her making lugaw or macaroni soup sa kawa na malaki tapos kami yung magpa-package. Nagsasalok kami ng bigas tapos nagbibilang kami ng mga canned goods nung grade school. Na after a while, I would have my own lines daw according to my mom.“And one of my fans actually sent me a photo of myself when I was like 9 or 10 and we were in Baguio. That wasn’t a place where my father was asking for votes. Because pag may surplus sa mga dino-donate ng sister cities sa America let’s say sa Pasay City pagdating sa gamot sa general hospital, dadalhin nila sa ibang lugar to help. So since we had a home in Baguio and we’d go so often, yung mga kapitbahay namin puro natives and my mom would really stay there and she would give medicine and then ke Pasay, ke Baguio, ke saan kami magpunta, habang namimigay ang mommy ko, may sarili pala akong linya.“Yung allowance ko pinangbibili ko ng candies sa sari-sari store. I actually got a picture of it. That’s so precious. And I posted it on IG after crying over it. A fan of mine found one. Naka-ponytail ako. I knew it was in Baguio because I recognized the background of our home and to me that’s proof of how my parents raised us. Yung hindi kami nangmamata. Marunong kami gumalang sa mas may edad sa amin. At saka nagmamano pa rin kami. Important yun.“Pati yung mga anak ko marunong. I don’t want them to lose that. And my childhood was nearly perfect and I’m so grateful to my parents for that“And di ba when you’re raising your own children, you pick what worked for you when your parents were disciplining you and that’s what you bring with you and use on your children and leave the not so nice parts out because no one’s perfect naman eh. And when I was able to also help I did that.“What I love about them is that hinayaan lang nila akong abutin yung pangarap ko. Hindi naman sila umasa sa akin but they just let me. They supported me.“Maganda din kasi yung pagpapalaki sa akin ng mga magulang ko. Which I am also able to apply to my son. By the way I’m such a bruha mom I just realized (laughs). But because I have a reason to. I have to correct if I need to correct. I used to spank him but now he’s big enough so I don’t need to anymore. Naturuan ko na siya.“So ganun pala yun, di ba minsan pag feeling mo hindi masyado maganda yung pagpapalaki sa ‘yo, you don’t want to be like that? Pero eventually na-a-apply mo rin pala. You realize na they needed to do that kasi gusto ka nila maging mabuting tao and now I’m able to apply it.“I’m so grateful. Naiintindihan ko na. Akala ko masungit lang nanay ko. Hindi pala. May dahilan pala yun. Mas bruha pala ako. Both my parents, they want for me to be a good person more than anything else most importantly. And to be a Godly person. Yun lang yung gusto nila.“Kasi hindi sila mayaman eh so ito na lang yung mga ipapamana nila sa akin. So I’m so grateful for that and I appreciate both my parents for teaching me so many things that I’m able now to apply to my one and only boy and sometimes to my husband (laughs).”Sharon Cuneta and Regine Velasquez will perform live at their Iconic concert happening on June 17 and 18 at the Marriott Grand Ballroom at Resorts World Manila in Pasay City.
