Having brought to life the role of Dr. Jill Ilustre in The Broken Marriage Vow for the past five months, actress Jodi Sta. Maria shared why she enjoyed doing what she considers one of the biggest acting challenges in her life.

“Thankful ako kay Jill dahil sa lahat ng mga lessons na natutunan ko habang ginagawa ko siya. Habang ginagawa ko si Dr. Jill Ilustre, ang dami ko ring na-discover tungkol sa sarili ko. Kaya doon nagpapasalamat ako sa character.

“And not only that, yung character ni Jill Ilustre would probably be one of the hardest roles that I’ve done in my life and yung challenge na in-offer nung role yung depth, yung pagiging multi-layered nung character, I believe really pushed me as an actor and made me realize and discover na meron pa pala, kaya pa palang isagad, puwede pa pala itong gawin. Dahil dito mas naniwala ako na kaya ko pa pala mag-grow sa craft ko,” she admitted.
“And not only that, yung character ni Jill Ilustre would probably be one of the hardest roles that I’ve done in my life and yung challenge na in-offer nung role yung depth, yung pagiging multi-layered nung character, I believe really pushed me as an actor and made me realize and discover na meron pa pala, kaya pa palang isagad, puwede pa pala itong gawin. Dahil dito mas naniwala ako na kaya ko pa pala mag-grow sa craft ko,” she admitted.
While shooting the series in Baguio City, Jodi recalled that everyone did their part in order to make the show a success onscreen.

“I would always consult with my directors. It’s really a collaboration of everyone. Hindi ko puwede sabihin na ako lang nakaisip nito. Hindi ganun eh. It’s really everyone working together. Parang I’m just part of a whole.

“Kumbaga, mas nabigyan buhay yung character ni doktora pati nung ibang cast at sa lahat din naman ng tao na nagsama sama para mabuo ang The Broken Marriage Vow. Malaking tulong na nabigyan tayo ng napakagandang location, nabigyan tayo ng napakahuhusay na Filipino designers na yung mga creations nila ang isinuot sa programa.

“Siyempre it’s always a blessing to be working with great actors na napapadali yung trabaho naming mga artista kung mapagbigay ang isa’t isa. And also it’s really just the whole team. I am just so proud to be here and to be proud of this wonderful project na talagang mapagmamalaki natin globally,” she explained.

Even though the series finale will finally air on June 24, Jodi believes she has already experienced one of the most exciting parts of The Broken Marriage Vow.

“Isa sa exciting parts talaga yung tinangkilik ng mga tao ang The Broken Marriage Vow and kahit papano naging proud ang kapwa nating Pilipino doon sa output na naibigay natin para sa kanila. I think yun yung exciting part. Tapos ang susunod dun yung ending part (laughs),” she said.

Taking a cue from her current role, Jodi shared some important advice about life from Dr. Jill Ilustre.

“Our life will only move towards the direction of our decisions so we have to really choose wisely. Choose our battles. If you’re given the chance to fight or to let go, that’s up to you. But if you were given the chance to treat the person the same way the person treated you. I always hope that we choose the high road and that we always choose to do better,” she said.
