Will Smith speaks out about Oscars slapping incident; apologizes to Chris Rock and his family

<p>&quot;There is no part of me that thinks that was the right way to behave in that moment.&quot;</p><p>These were the words of Will Smith as he spoke out about slapping Chris Rock at the 94th Academy Awards in March.</p><p>The actor uploaded a video on his Instagram page wherein he addressed various questions in relation to the incident that transpired at the Oscars.</p><p>&quot;Over the last few months, I&#x27;ve been doing a lot of thinking and personal work. You asked a lot of fair questions that I wanted to take some time to answer,&quot; the statement read in the introduction of his Instagram video.</p><p>One of the questions he addressed was why he did not apologize to Chris during his acceptance speech when he received the best actor trophy for his performance in the movie <em>King Richard.</em></p><p>Will said, &quot;I was fogged out by that point. It&#x27;s all fuzzy. I&#x27;ve reached out to Chris and the message that came back is that he&#x27;s not ready to talk and when he is, he will reach out. So I will say to you Chris, I apologize to you. My behavior was unacceptable and I&#x27;m here whenever you are ready to talk.&quot;</p><p>The actor also said sorry to Chris&#x27; family saying, &quot;I wasn&#x27;t thinking how many people got hurt in that moment so I want to apologize to Chris&#x27;s mother. I want to apologize to Chris&#x27;s family, specifically Tony Rock. We had a great relationship. Tony Rock was my man. right way to behave in that moment. And the work I am trying to do is I am deeply remorseful and I am trying to be remorseful without being ashamed of myself,&quot; he stated.</p><p>The actor highlighted that he remains committed to sharing light and love to the world.</p><p>&quot;I&#x27;m human and I made a mistake and I am trying not to think of myself as a piece of sh*t so I would say to those people I know it was confusing, I know it was shocking but I promise you I am deeply devoted and committed to putting light, and love, and joy into the world and, you know, if you hang on I promise we will be able to be friends again,&quot; he stated. </p>
