Filipino designer Rian Fernandez shared the meaning behind the evening gown of newly crowned Miss Universe 2022 R'Bonney Gabriel of the United States at the pageant's coronation night.

On his Instagram page, Rian talked about what the colors and accents in R'Bonney's gown represented.

"The black color of the gown represents competence and sophistication. The gunmetal accents epitomize strength and remarkable resilience of R’bonney and power of the United States of America," he shared.

"The black onyx and the glass mirror drops are symbols of reflection and self growth. The fringe skirt depicts the movement of life with blue sapphire swarovski stones that stands for the new era of emerging women. Truly this piece is a vivid portrayal of a phenomenal Queen!" the designer added.

Followers of Rian were quick to congratulate him on being the designer of the new Miss Universe.

"Congratulations to you as well, Rian! She carried your designs so beautifully onstage. I hope to see her in more of your pieces during her year as Miss Universe!" one follower said.

"Congratulations Rian👏👏👏👏👏 Miss Universe winning gown," another netizen commented.

Rian also designed the magenta gown of R'Bonney during the preliminary round of the pageant.

He also shared the details behind the said gown on his Instagram page.

R'Bonney was crowned Miss Universe on January 15 (Philippine Time) in New Orleans, Louisiana, US. She is the first Filipino-American to win Miss Universe in the history of the pageant.

In an interview with ABS-CBN News, R'Bonney expressed her gratitude to her Filipino supporters.

"Mabuhay Philippines, mabuhay Filipino fans. Maraming maraming salamat sa lahat ng tulong ninyo," she said.

"The support is everything. I feel it in my heart. I heard it in the room. It was an amazing energy. The Filipino blood is so strong. We are hardworking, we are fun and we are determined. I am so proud to be a half-Filipina," the beauty queen added.
