After APO Hiking Society member Danny Javier finally succumbed to a longtime illness last October, his longtime friends and group members Jim Paredes and Boboy Garovillo revealed just how much they both miss their beloved friend.

“We did so many Valentine shows with Danny for 40 years. Easily about 20. We’re also singing some of the stuff that he wrote in this Valentine’s show,” Jim shared during the presscon for the all-star Valentine concert entitled "All Heart" on February 14.

Jim also revealed meeting Danny in a dream.

“Oo. In a dream he was singing a song with me. Sabi niya, ‘I-memorize mo ito’ and I was memorizing it in my dream. When I woke up, hindi ko na maalala. But I knew he was talking to me,” Jim revealed.

Buboy shared that even though he has not dreamt about Danny, he feels like he now has a new guardian angel after surviving a car accident late last year. “

Hindi ko siya napanaginipan kasi alam ko binabantayan niya ako. In fact, something happened to me recently and sabi nga namin nakalusot ako dun and fortunately I was saved and everybody said, ‘Andiyan si Danny nakabantay sa ‘yo,” Boboy said.

When asked which was their most memorable show with Danny, the "All Heart" performers both agreed that they have shared too many wonderful memories together already.

“Oh so many. Countless actually. We’ve performed everywhere under all circumstances. Big concerts, small concerts, even at a wake, kumanta kami sa wake. Pati sa probinsya like sa Japan at four in the morning concert," Jim explained.

"So many memorable experiences but we miss him because we have developed a team of three. So now that he’s not here, the dynamics have changed. But it’s also a dynamic that’s workable kasi matagal na rin kaming magkasama so we know how to fill the gaps,” he added.

Now that APO Hiking Society is going to be a duo, the two singers shared how they are coping and adjusting to the changes in their group.

“It was difficult to start with talaga kasi nag-uusap pa kami ni Jim, ‘Oh, who’s going to do the lead voice of Danny?’ Wala talagang kapares yung boses ni Danny. So effort kami ngayon. We’re thankful that we’re still healthy enough that we can still project our voice na lumabas na tunog APO pa rin. And at the same time, in our shows now, we always have back up singers to help us," Boboy explained.

"Kasi sabi namin tatlong boses palagi yun eh. Hindi natin magagawa yun na dalawa lang tayo. So we have back up voices and we have friends already who will regularly be helping us in our small shows that we do," he added.

"In fact, this will be the first show that we’ll have back up singers. Kasi sabi namin unfair naman kung hindi lumabas yung tunog ng APO. Yung tunog ng APO kasi talaga is the harmony and our two voices will always be there but we’ll always need a third. So to cover up for that we have two other singers who back us up also. So we’d like to get the whole APO sound even better,” he continued.

Jim, for his part, said: “The thankful element that we’re very grateful to say is that kahit dalawa kami, kahit na mag-isa nga ako, pag kumakanta ako sa Sydney, the moment mag-start yung a song, they start singing it already because people know our stuff."

"It’s the song that carries us now. When you have a new recording, you carry the song. Pero pag popular na yung song, kahit na isang APO or dalawang APO or tatlong APO yung nandun, may life of its own na yung song. And we are thankful na marami kaming ganun. So that’s why we’re still around," he added.

With the addition of new backup singers, Boboy said he hopes that people can enjoy the APO sound the way it’s meant to be.

“Actually sa totoo lang, nami-miss namin siya kasi when we do our shows now, meron na kaming kasamang back-up singers parati. Yun talaga ang unang na-mi-miss namin, yung napakakapal na boses ni Danny. So ngayon, we’re trying to make up for it. Lalakasan namin boses namin,” Boboy shared.

"All Heart" performers include APO's Jim Paredes and Boboy Garrovillo as well as Neocolors' lead singer Ito Rapadas, Afterimage frontman Wency Cornejo, Roselle Nava, and Raymond Lauchengco.

The concert will be held at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) Plenary Hall on February 14, 2023, Tuesday, at 8:30 pm. Tickets are now available via Ticketworld.
