After openly talking about his experience battling substance abuse and experiencing panic and anxiety attacks in the past, actor JM De Guzman is starting the year on a hopeful note. The 31-year-old actor penned a meaningful and supportive letter to himself in his Instagram post. In the post, JM references his two stints in rehab which included his last relapse in 2016.

He wrote,

“dear JM

In 2021, JM revealed that he started making changes in his lifestyle that improved his mental health and gave him a fitter physique. His routine included more exercise, adopting a healthy diet, cutting back on alcohol, spending less time on his phone, and focusing on his music. In 2020, he also shared his ritual on how to cope when he experiences a panic disorder in the middle of the night. His process involved putting ice on his face, head, and hand while praying and taking deep breaths.

In 2019, JM shared his reaction regarding the proposed drug testing for celebrities after an interview with then Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Director General Aaron Aquino revealed that a total of 20 actors and 11 actresses were on their radar for suspected use and peddling of illegal drugs. JM showed his support for the PDEA’s initiatives and declared that he was willing to undergo a drug test “anytime, anywhere”.

This year, JM is set to star in the upcoming ABS-CBN series Linlang along with Maricel Soriano Paulo Avelino, and Kim Chiu.
