Filipino-American social media influencer Bretman Rock seemingly threw shade on Hollywood actress Vanessa Hudgens in an interview about Filipino-American musicians.

At the Hollywood premiere of Star Cinema’s A Very Good Girl last October 5, Bretman was asked who he would choose between Fil-Am Hollywood stars Olivia Rodrigo and Vanessa Hudgens in a This or That segment by APop, a Buzzfeed program dedicated to Asian-American content.

Bretman, without hesitation, chose Olivia Rodrigo.

The social media personality even added, “I didn’t even hear the second name. Who was that?”

The APop reporter then repeated Vanessa’s name as Bretman quipped, “Olivia Rodrigo?”

Bretman was also asked to choose between artists Shay Mitchell and Nicole Scherzinger and was surprised to find out that the former sings.

“Shay sings?” he asked with disbelief on his face.

He then chose Nicole with the reason, “Only because that’s news to me. I’m gonna say Nicole Scherzinger.”

The This or That video was posted last October 16 and garnered 1.6 million views on TikTok.

Last August, the social media star reportedly took a swipe at Vanessa, who in March this year was named Global Tourism Ambassador to help promote the Philippines.

In an Instagram post of Bretman’s holiday in Palawan where he proudly shared his sentimental life journey as “a little kid who grew up in Sanchez Mira Cagayan,” a follower commented,“Vanessa Hudgens is shaking [fire emojis]" on the photo.

The Baddest personality then replied, “B**** can’t even say Palawan.”

He was referring to a video of Vanessa posted on Instagram where the High School Musical actress was learning how to correctly pronounce Palawan during a shoot for a travel documentary as the country’s tourism ambassador.

Some netizens had earlier expressed their hot takes on who was better suited to be the Philippine tourism ambassador, stating how these personalities could help promote the country to the world.

The Hawaii-based star was born in Cagayan and spent his childhood there up until he was seven years old. He recently became the cover star for Vogue Philippines’ June issue and a guest judge for Drag Race Philippines Season 2.

Bretman also showed support for a non-profit organization that provides support and care facilities for elderly LGBTQ people without families by partnering with an ice cream brand during the celebration of Filipino-American History Month.

Meanwhile, Vanessa's mother is a Filipina and a native of Mindanao.
