The cast members of Friends have released a joint statement following the passing of their co-star Matthew Perry.

In a statement they sent to PEOPLE magazine, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer, and Matt LeBlanc expressed their sorrow over the death of their co-actor.

"We are all so utterly devastated by the loss of Matthew. We were more than just cast mates. We are a family," the statement read.

"There is so much to say, but right now we’re going to take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss."

The Friends stars extended their sympathy to the family of Matthew.

"In time we will say more, as and when we are able. For now, our thoughts and our love are with Matty’s family, his friends, and everyone who loved him around the world," they added.

Friends co-creators Marta Kauffman and David Crane alongside executive producer Kevin Bright also released a joint statement.

"We are shocked and deeply, deeply saddened by our beloved friend Matthew’s passing. It still seems impossible. All we can say is that we feel blessed to have had him as part of our lives. He was a brilliant talent," they said.

"It’s a cliche to say that an actor makes a role their own, but in Matthew’s case, there are no truer words. From the day we first heard him embody the role of Chandler Bing, there was no one else for us," they added.

Matthew was found dead in a hot tub in his Los Angeles home on Sunday, October 29 (US time). He passed away at 54.

According to PEOPLE, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed that an autopsy has been completed. The cause of death of the actor has yet to be disclosed.

Matthew played the role of Chandler Bling in Friends. The show ran from 1994 to 2004.
