Troy Laureta shows love for OPM in new album ‘Dalamhati’

<p>Filipino-American music director, producer, and singer Troy Laureta, recently released the third part of his trilogy album <em>Dalamhati, </em>showcasing his love for Original Pilipino Music (OPM). </p><p>The album, which came out on October 27, features a collection of classic Filipino heartbreak songs, as well as Troy&#x27;s own compositions that were sung by both local and foreign artists. </p><p>During the grand media conference held on November 10 at the Dolphy Theatre inside the ABS-CBN compound, Troy shared how he started working on his OPM trilogy collections.</p><div><br/></div><iframe class="instagram-media instagram-media-rendered" id="instagram-embed-13" src="https://www.instagram.com/p/CzfayQLriSe/embed/captioned/?cr=1&amp;v=14&amp;wp=536&amp;rd=https%3A%2F%2Fent-workbench-web.abs-cbn.com&amp;rp=%2F#%7B%22ci%22%3A13%2C%22os%22%3A7910491%2C%22ls%22%3A6468496.600000024%2C%22le%22%3A6468773%7D" allowtransparency="true" allowfullscreen="" frameBorder="0" height="800" data-instgrm-payload-id="instagram-media-payload-13" scrolling="no" style="background:white;max-width:540px;width:calc(100% - 2px);border-radius:3px;border:1px solid rgb(219, 219, 219);box-shadow:none;display:block;margin:0px 0px 12px;min-width:326px;padding:0px"></iframe><script async="" src="//www.instagram.com/embed.js"></script><div><br/></div><p><strong> </strong>“You know I had this dream ever since I was a kid, I’m always into music,” he continued, “I grew up with Filipino music and I always had that weird thinking ‘Oh my god would it be cool, I’m doing this all-Western music if the Western singers would do our music,&#x27;&quot; he said. </p><p>Troy also shared how his trilogy — <em>Kaibigan, Giliw, and now Dalamhati —</em> tells the story of “unrequited love.”</p><p>“It’s for me, very Filipino. It’s a story of my life and how relationships kinda develop. You go from friends to lovers and then basically my heartbreak album,” he shared.</p><p>The &quot;Rosatina&quot; singer has also reassured fans that the album won&#x27;t be the last project he would do for OPM.</p><p>“This is the final of the trilogy, of the story of (me),” he explained.</p><p>“I am obsessed with Filipino music so what lies ahead for me might be more original Filipino music like I’ve written and worked with some of the artists here,&quot; he said. </p><p>He has collaborated with various artists from the Philippines and the West to create new versions of classic songs including &quot;Hanggang,&quot; &quot;When I Met You,&quot; &quot;Ang Huling El Bimbo,&quot; &quot;Dahil Mahal na Mahal Kita,&quot; and &quot;Come In Out of The Rain.&quot;</p><p>The album featured various foreign artists such as Jordin Sparks, Loren Allred, Katharine McPhee, JJ Lin, Dessa, Pia Toscano, Lalah Hathaway, and more, all of whom sang OPM songs beautifully in Filipino. </p><p>Local singers such as Sheryn Regis, Morisette, OPM President Ogie Alcasid, Martin Nievera, Asia&#x27;s songbird Regine Velasquez, and Jed Madela, who attended the media conference in support of his friend Troy, were also included in the collection.</p><div><br/></div><iframe class="instagram-media instagram-media-rendered" id="instagram-embed-14" src="https://www.instagram.com/p/CzfayQLriSe/embed/captioned/?cr=1&amp;v=14&amp;wp=536&amp;rd=https%3A%2F%2Fent-workbench-web.abs-cbn.com&amp;rp=%2F#%7B%22ci%22%3A14%2C%22os%22%3A7910515.900000036%2C%22ls%22%3A6468496.600000024%2C%22le%22%3A6468773%7D" allowtransparency="true" allowfullscreen="" frameBorder="0" height="800" data-instgrm-payload-id="instagram-media-payload-14" scrolling="no" style="background:white;max-width:540px;width:calc(100% - 2px);border-radius:3px;border:1px solid rgb(219, 219, 219);box-shadow:none;display:block;margin:0px 0px 12px;min-width:326px;padding:0px"></iframe><script async="" src="//www.instagram.com/embed.js"></script><div><br/></div><p>“Aside from the fact that he is such an amazing artist, what really stands out is he has a very beautiful soul,” Jed said, talking about working with Troy.</p><p>“He has opened so many doors, even windows, for local artists, Filipino artists to be noticed in the international scenes,&quot; he added. </p><p>Jed expressed gratitude to Troy for inspiring him to pursue music and shared a story about how Troy&#x27;s encouragement led him to create &quot;The Memory.&quot;</p><p>“When Troy introduced the song to me, it had a certain R&amp;B feel. So, tinanong ko siya ‘Kaya ko ba to?’” he said asking for assurance if he will be able to “give justice to Troy’s composition”.</p><p>Troy, who’s very confident and proud of Jed, said&quot; “Kayang kaya!”</p><p>“I told Troy whatever vision you have for this song, let me know” He added: &quot;So that was how it was recorded when we met in the studio. I told him ‘Do whatever.’ and then that what’s he did.”</p><p>During an event, Jed noticed that Troy was the only &quot;arranger and composer&quot; who made him swear in a song. I love Moira.”</p><p>He also expressed his desire for Barbara Streisand to sing in Filipino.</p><p>“I’ve been a fan of hers forever. I’m gonna get her to sing in Tagalog I promised,&quot; he remarked. </p><p>Towards the end of the media conference, the musical director became emotional and shared an inspiring message.</p><p> He revealed that he initially felt a bit out of place performing at the event because he was used to playing in the background behind the artists.</p><p>“This is me getting used to stepping into my life. To find that courage and ferocity to stand on my own as Troy Laureta,&quot; he stated.</p><p>While holding back tears, the creator of<em> Dalamhati</em> expressed gratitude to everyone who attended the event including the country, artists, team, family, and friends.</p><p>“Standing before you with a dream, a dream that same way opens and has changed my life. I will be able to affect someone’s life through our music and the world will shout our music from all corners,&quot; he said. </p><p>He ended his message by saying: “Isang karangalan po. Kay ganda ng ating musika. Mabuhay ang OPM, mabuhay ang mga Pilipino.”</p>
