Alessandra de Rossi shared how she handles what people have to say about her and her onscreen performances.

For her latest role in the much anticipated Netflix-produced Filipino series Replacing Chef Chico, actress Alessandra de Rossi brings to life another exciting character.

She plays the role of Ella, a devoted sous chef to Hain restaurant owner and head chef Nico (played by Sam Milby), whom she falls in love with. But when corporate consultant Raymond (Piolo Pascual) enters the picture to help save the restaurant, an unexpected love triangle forms in the eight-episode series.

“I’m really, really proud and happy na kasama ko si Piolo, si Sam, sila direk Dan (Villegas), and direk Tonette (Jadaone),” Alessandra said during the Replacing Chef Chico presscon held last November 23 in Makati City.

As a self-confessed home cook, Alessandra admitted that she learned a lot more about being in the kitchen after doing the show, especially since she and co-star Sam Milby went through a one-week crash course in the kitchen prior to taping.

“Ako kasi sa cooking sa totoong buhay ha, I’m kind of a kung ano nandiyan, bara bara. Ilagay mo diyan, try mo ito, okay. Basta at least alam mo na tama 'yung timpla in your head, tama 'yung temperature, tama 'yung pag-blend ng lahat, okay ang lahat. I think kahit ano pwede mo gawan. You can do anything, ika nga. You just make sure that they blend together and you’re doing it with the right temperature,” she admitted.

Alessandra also enjoyed the many different Pinoy dishes they featured in the show. She also said she hopes to recreate one particularly difficult-to-make dish in real life.

“Once ko lang ginawa pero kailangan kong ulitin, 'yung Callos. Nagtagumpay ako dun. Dun sa show, favorite ko 'yung Lumpiang Sisig. Iba. At saka 'yung Dinakdakang Empanada. 'Yun medyo naluha luha ako nung kinagat ko eh. Napakasarap," she said.

"'Yung alam mong pwede mo ipatikim sa foreigner, for example, na walang alam tapos kakainin and hindi sila ma-sa-shock kaagad. Parang it’s something familiar but at the same time, parang may something, parang ganun,” she added.

Having to shoot most of her scenes in the kitchen, Alessandra revealed that the most difficult part of shooting for her was not the acting but the physical element.

“Di ba supposedly may sapatos na pang-chef para di ka mahirapan kasi nakatayo ka the whole day? Ang sakit talaga kasi nakatayo talaga kami the whole day. Umuupo na ako sa kitchen counter, wala na akong pakialam. Kasi wala ka talagang mauupuan dun eh," she recalled.

"Tapos lahat ng scenes niyo nandun. Tapos ang sakit talaga sa paa! As in na-realize ko hindi pala tama 'yung tayo ko, mas nandito 'yung weight ko. Naayos ko lahat 'yun. Na-correct ko lahat 'yun dahil sa Replacing Chef Chico,” she added.

With an acting career spanning more than two decades, Alessandra said she has learned how to listen and filter out what people have to say about each performance she does.

“Ako, balanse lang. Parang kung hindi ko gusto ito, hindi ako maniniwala sa inyo. Same as hindi rin ako maniniwala pag sinabi mong ang ganda ganda mo. 'Yung parang naka-balance lang siya dapat," she said.

"Siyempre you know kung ano 'yung dapat mong pakinggan and sana hindi ka surrounded by yes people parang laging sasabihin ang galing mo, sobrang ganda ng lahat ng ginagawa mo," she added.

"Parang ang weird naman ng ganung klaseng life di ba? Balansehin mo lang. Parang more of i-filter out ba 'yung noise. You will know kung ano 'yung noise lang,” she continued.

Replacing Chef Chico stars Piolo Pascual, Alessandra de Rossi, and Sam Milby.

The series is directed by Dan Villegas, created by Antoinette Jadaone, and produced for Netflix in association with CS Studios and Project 8 Projects. It is now available for streaming only on Netflix.
