Jimin of BTS set to release new song ‘Closer Than This’

BTS member Jimin is set to drop a new song on Friday, December 22.

BIGHIT Music announced that the song is called "Closer Than This."

According to a report by Soompi, Jimin's new single "is a heartfelt fan song that encapsulates Jimin’s genuine feelings for ARMY."

"As we approach the final days of 2023, we hope that ‘Closer Than This,’ with its lyrics conveying Jimin’s love and affection for his fans, will bring you hope and warmth," BIGHIT added.

The song will be released days after Jimin entered the mandatory military service on December 12.

Yonhap News Agency reported that Jimin and Jungkook were set to undergo training at the same recruit training camp of the army.

"I think it will be a lot of support to be able to enlist with Jungkook. I will come back after doing a good job," Jimin said in a Weverse livestream before his enlistment.

In April this year, Jimin became the first the first South Korean solo artist to debut at No. 1 on Billboard Hot 100 with his single "Like Crazy."

Meanwhile, his debut solo album FACE debuted at number 2 on the Billboard 200.

In an interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the K-Pop artist shared the inspiration behind his record.

"This album is, I think many are aware of it, but the album looks back on the emotions I felt chronologically throughout the pandemic. So I would be happy if many people could relate to it," he stated.

FACE is composed of six tracks which are "Face-Off," "Interlude: Dive," "Like Crazy," "Alone," "Set Me Free Pt. 2," and "Like Crazy (English version).”

In September, Jimin alongside the other BTS members renewed their contract with BIGHIT Music.

"The board of BIGHIT Music all agreed to renew the exclusive contracts of BTS members RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook," the agency said in a statement.

The agency added: "BIGHIT Music will take into consideration the military service status of some of the members and plans to sign with each BTS member sequentially. The members who are currently serving in the military will have completed their military duty by the start of the renewed exclusive contract period in 2025."
