Jo Koy to host the Golden Globes: ‘I get to make my Filipino family proud’

Filipino-American comedian Jo Koy is set to host the 81st Golden Globe Awards. 

"I’ve stepped onto a lot of stages around the world in my career, but this one is going to be extra special," Jo Koy remarked in a statement as reported by ABS-CBN News.

"This is that moment where I get to make my Filipino family proud. Mahal kita (Google it)!" he said.

The Golden Globes will happen on Sunday, January 7, 2024 (US time).

The comedian also posted a clip on social media announcing that he will be hosting the event. 

Fans online were quick to express their excitement about Jo Koy hosting the show.

"Freaking amazing!!!!!!! I know this is the ultimate! So excited to see u climbing higher and higher !!!! Keep going!!!!" one fan said.

"Soooo excited for you, can’t wait to watch it!" another fan wrote.

"Jo Koy is adorable!! How do I get VIP front row seats?! Congratulations!! We are so excited!! I’m so proud of you!" one fan posted.

It's the first time that Jo Koy will be hosting the awards ceremony.

"We can’t wait to see what he has in store for the stars in the room and a global audience," Helen Hoehne stated, Golden Globes President, as reported by ABS-CBN News.

She added: "We know Jo is bringing his A-game."

In 2022, Jo Koy starred in the comedy film Easter Sunday. It was the first major Hollywood film with a Filipino cast.

In an interview on The Today Show, the comedian remarked that he is proud to represent Filipinos on the big screen.

"There is a lot of pressure. I got the weight of that country right now so I made sure that I represented everyone beautifully, especially my mom too. It's just beautiful," he stated.

He continued: "My mom will be 69 and it's been 51 years since she lived here and never seen anything like this and this is the first time that her and everybody else that's Filipino being represented this way."

He also recently headlined Funny is Funny world tour which he also brought to the Philippines.
