The South Korean trot singer first started his music career back in 2007 as a ballad singer with his first album Young Tak Disid. However, it wasn’t until 2016 that Young Tak started his career in the trot genre.

“There was a time in my career when I was hit by reality by the thought that the income as a singer is not enough as we think. I started to teach kids for two to three years," he shared.

He revealed that people were complimenting him for being a great teacher which motivated him to do more. Young Tak added that he didn’t prioritize his music career while he was teaching which led to him feeling lonely.

“I can honestly say that during those times, I put down first my music and I was very sad about the truth that I was not able to perform the music that I wanted to show. After that, I was able to get a great opportunity to begin my career again through a Korean reality show called Hidden Singer,” he shared.

From there, Young Tak’s career in the South Korean entertainment industry has since been going steady.

In 2020, he had another opportunity to join the competition, Mr. Trot, wherein he was able to rank second place out of 17,000 participants.

“I believe that through such programs, many doors have been opened for many trot singers and I was one of those who received such a chance,” he shared.

Young Tak said that it is slowly been gaining recognition among the younger generation and it’s not just limited to the older ones.

“I believe trot is becoming a universal music genre that everyone can enjoy. With this in mind, I hope to become an artist who does not limit himself but can create music that can be enjoyed by anyone, anytime,” he said.
