<p><em>The Fookien Times Philippines Yearbook</em> launched its 2023 edition on Monday, March 20 at Hilton Manila. The grand launch also coincided with the birthday celebration of its Chairman and CEO Grace Glory Go.</p><p>This year&#x27;s edition of the yearbook aims to celebrate and revisit a discourse that has been ever-present in our country which is &quot;Who is the Filipino?&quot;</p><p>&quot;As we enter into this new era of our collective history, we believed that who is the Filipino and what is the national identity of the Filipino is a very important question that we must continue to address,&quot; President and Publisher Vernon Go remarked during the event.</p><div><iframe class="instagram-media instagram-media-rendered" id="instagram-embed-0" src="https://www.instagram.com/reel/CqAxBWAgrhI/embed/?cr=1&amp;v=14&amp;wp=506&amp;rd=https%3A%2F%2Fent-workbench-web.abs-cbn.com&amp;rp=%2F#%7B%22ci%22%3A0%2C%22os%22%3A256590.7999999998%2C%22ls%22%3A256194%2C%22le%22%3A256197.5%7D" allowtransparency="true" allowfullscreen="" frameBorder="0" height="880" data-instgrm-payload-id="instagram-media-payload-0" scrolling="no" style="background:white;max-width:540px;width:calc(100% - 2px);border-radius:3px;border:1px solid rgb(219, 219, 219);box-shadow:none;display:block;margin:0px 0px 12px;min-width:326px;padding:0px"></iframe></div><script async="" src="//www.instagram.com/embed.js"></script><p>Founded in 1936, the yearbook showcases exceptional literary works and photographs thoughtfully written and curated by distinguished Filipinos. </p><p>This year&#x27;s edition presents a diverse range of ideas and essays contributed by prominent figures in Philippine history, as well as accomplished local athletes and artists, that illustrate the intricacy and distinctiveness of the Filipino identity.</p><p>Given that the concept of national identity is subjective and varies from person to person, the 2023 Philippine Yearbook incorporates the perspectives of notable Filipino personalities led by Editor-in-Chief Paulo G. Alcazaren alongside the grandson of former President Manuel L. Quezon and Inquirer columnist Manuel L. Quezon III and Nobel laureate Maria Ressa, among others.</p><p>The grand launch was attended by this year’s honorees including bowler Paeng Nepomuceno, lawyer and human rights advocate Chel Diokno, and Chef Tatung Sarthou, to name a few.</p><p>In an interview with <a href="https://push.abs-cbn.com"><strong>PUSH</strong></a> at the event, Paeng remarked that he is truly honored to be part of the 2023 Philippines Yearbook and represent the Filipino identity.</p><p>&quot;Three years ago it was a sports yearbook and now its about the Filipino identity I am happy to be a Filipino and proud,&quot; he stated.</p><div><iframe class="instagram-media instagram-media-rendered" id="instagram-embed-1" src="https://www.instagram.com/p/CqAl3MgvsQ9/embed/?cr=1&amp;v=14&amp;wp=506&amp;rd=https%3A%2F%2Fent-workbench-web.abs-cbn.com&amp;rp=%2F#%7B%22ci%22%3A1%2C%22os%22%3A256609.2000000002%2C%22ls%22%3A256194%2C%22le%22%3A256197.5%7D" allowtransparency="true" allowfullscreen="" frameBorder="0" height="611" data-instgrm-payload-id="instagram-media-payload-1" scrolling="no" style="background:white;max-width:540px;width:calc(100% - 2px);border-radius:3px;border:1px solid rgb(219, 219, 219);box-shadow:none;display:block;margin:0px 0px 12px;min-width:326px;padding:0px"></iframe></div><script async="" src="//www.instagram.com/embed.js"></script><p>The athlete added that he has always been an honor to represent the Philippines in bowling competitions.  </p><p>&quot;I&#x27;m proud of my heritage and foremost in my mind, whenever I compete, it&#x27;s always for flag and country,&quot; he remarked.</p><p><em>The </em><em>Fookien Times Philippines Yearbook </em>was founded in 1936 by Dr. James Go Puan Seng, the father of Grace. Since then, it served as a chronicle of annual national issues, events, relevant personalities, and culture of the Philippines.</p>
