Neri Miranda recalls early days raising pigs to help family

“Never ko kinahiya ‘yun,” said Neri Naig Miranda on her Instagram post last April 11, 2023. Neri frequently shares her thoughts on various topics, and on this day, she chose to look back on her childhood days in Subic, particularly the times she would gather food from their neighbors to use as feed for their pigs. “Yung panahong nangunguha ako ng kaning baboy sa mga kapitbahay namin sa Subic,” she recalled.To those who have no idea what kaning baboy meant, Neri also gave a vivid description of it.“‘Yung literal na pinagsama-samang pagkain na punong tubig at sabaw, babad na tinapay, kanin, tinapong pagkain na nakalagay sa timba sa labas ng kusina,” she explained. “Ayun ang kinukuha ko sa kanila.”It was Neri’s task to gather this hodgepodge of food scraps after she came home from school. “I was 10 years old,” she reminisced. “After school, ‘yun ang ginagawa ko, nangongolekta ng kaning baboy para pangkain sa mga alaga naming baboy ng nanay ko.”Since they did not have enough money to buy commercial feeds for the pigs that they were raising, they had to improvise and make do with their neighbor’s leftovers. “Wala pa kaming pambili ng darak sa tindahan that time,” she explained. Despite the humble chore, Neri had no qualms about doing it. Neither does she have any regrets or shame in sharing that she did that in her youth. On the contrary, Neri looked back on her early days with fondness and was proud that she was able to experience that, even crediting her humble beginnings for making her into the entrepreneur that she is today. “Never ko kinahiya ‘yun. Proud ako na nagawa ko ‘yun,” she stated. “Dun pala magsisimula ang pagiging entrepreneur ko.”“Hindi ko pa man alam that time, I was 10, pero isa ‘yung experience na ‘yun na masasabi kong one of the best memories nung childhood ko,” she added. “Aba, ilang kabataan ang makakasabi na nangongolekta sila ng kaning baboy?”In Neri’s caption, she continued to cheer for those who, like her, hailed from a simple background and worked their way through life. “Kung isa ka man dun, apir! Be proud! Galing natin!” cheered Neri. “Naka-survive tayo at patuloy na lumalaban para sa pamilya. Mabuhay ka!”She also reminded her followers to keep pushing forward, even when the going gets tough. “Palaging tandaan, napapagod man tayo pero hindi susuko,” she said. Dubbed “Wais na Misis”, Neri successfully runs several businesses.
