David Licauco admitted that entering showbiz was never part of his plan.

In an interview with Karen Davila, the actor was asked why he decided to venture into the entertainment industry.

"I would say because I failed in becoming a professional basketball player," he replied.

He continued: "Super unexpected kasi 'yung showbiz kasi di naman ako lumaking crush ng bayan. I don't know, it just really happened."

David relayed that he first became a model before he became an actor.

"I was just walking along Bora tapos biglang may lumapit sa akin na agent and he asked me if I wanted to become a model... I told my mom and even her na-surprise din siya. So after that it snowballed from there," he shared.

David figured in a car accident when he was younger which became the reason he was not able to pursue playing basketball.

"Magbabarkada kami, high school friends and we decided to go Tagaytay. Tapos 'yung paguwi namin na-hit namin 'yung gas truck sa SLEX. I was in the passenger seat in front, parang miracle siya," he relayed.

The actor relayed that he considered it as a miracle as he was reminded by a parking boy to fasten his seatbelt before the accident happened.

"Di ba 'yung parking boy nasa side ng driver pero for some reason parang miracle na lang for me na nandun siya sa side ko. Sabi niya, 'Sir, seat belt lang po ha,' sabi niyang ganun. Parang natulog ako kasi I was really sleepy," he relayed.

"And dun sa tollgate for some reason nagising ako bigla parang may gumising sa akin and I remember what that parking boy told me and then I did, nag-seatbelt ako and after ten minutes along Parañaque we hit a gas truck so 'yun miracle na lang talaga."

David survived but his best friend passed away in the accident.

"We were five and 'yung best friend ko namatay siya," he said.

Did he think that it was his last day?

"At that point wala na akong ibang maisip kundi pumunta sa hospital. Everyone was crying. I tried my best to parang help but I couldn't help anyone becaue I couldn't even help myself," the actor recounted.

David shared that his best friend used to be his neighbor and they grew up together.

"He was my best friend. He was my neighbor and we grew up together. And I would always play basketball with him," he recalled.

The actor admitted that he sort of blamed myself for what happened, saying, "Medyo sinisi ko rin kasi sarili ko 'cause what if I didn't sleep? What if sinamahan ko 'yung driver na parang pwede siyang maiwasan kung mas naging aware ako, mas naging wise ako in that situation."

David remarked that he realized a lot of things when he was bed-ridden due to the accident.

"Parang na-realize ko importance of life. Mas minahal ko 'yung sarili ko, mas minahal ko 'yung friends ko, and family because you never know, like life is just lent to us," he stated.

The Maria Clara at Ibarra star remarked that he considers surviving the accident as a miracle.

"Kasi parang feeling ko angel 'yung gumigising sa akin. Si God talaga. Parang meron akong nakikita that time na parang light. Parang, 'Hey David, wake up,' parang ganun eh. Wear your seatbelt. Our God is amazing," he said.

He remarked that after what transpired, he became more grateful to God.

"Nung time na 'yun mas naging thankful ako, mas pinapasalamatan ko si God kasi kung hindi dahil sa kanya wala na ako ngayon eh. I also thanked him na meron pa akong purpose, that maybe kaya ako hindi pa kinuha ni Lord is because I still have a purpose in life," he stated.
