The hit vampire novel Twilight is set to have a television adaptation.

According to a report by The Hollywood Reporter, Lionsgate Television is currently working on a television series version of the vampire franchise based on the bestselling book of Stephenie Meyer.

The report added that Sinead Daly will be writing the script for the TV adaptation. Stephenie will be involved in the creation of the television version of Twilight.

However, the said TV adaptation is still in its infancy stage and the platform where it will be shown has yet to be determined. There is also no definite date yet on when the series will be offered to prospective buyers.

The first Twilight book was published in 2005 and became a bestseller. Following the success of Twilight, Stephenie released New Moon in 2006, Eclipse in 2007, and Breaking Dawn in 2008. 

The books were then turned into films. Robert Pattinson was chosen to play the role of the vampire named Edward Cullen and Kristen Stewart played the role of teenager Bella Swan. Meanwhile, Taylor Lautner portrayed the role of werewolf Jacob Black.

The first Twilight film was released in November 2008. The sequel New Moon premiered in November 2009, and Eclipse was released in June 2010.

Meanwhile, the fourth book was split into two movies. Breaking Dawn Part 1 was released in November 2011 and Breaking Dawn Part 2 premiered in November 2012.

In August 2020, a spinoff of the Twilight book titled Midnight Sun was released. The book tells the story of Twilight from the perspective of Edward Cullen. The book sold one million copies in its first week of release.

Following the release of Midnight Sun, Stephenie revealed that she wanted to write two more books based on the Twilight story.

"There are two more books I think in the world that I want to write. I have got them outlined and a chapter written I think of the first one, so I know it's there. I am not ready to do that right now, I want to do something brand new," she stated at the Books-A-Million's virtual event in August 2020 as reported by USA Today.

She added, "For me, a lot of the joy of writing comes from creating and I really want to do a new world and new rules and new mythology. Mythology is kind of my thing."
