All set to star in the Prime Video exclusive psychological thriller Cattleya Killer, Arjo Atayde shared how he was able to prepare for his role as NBI agent Anton dela Rosa.

The series is a remake of the 1996 film Sa Aking Mga Kamay, which starred Aga Muhlach.

“Definitely with the guidance of direk and the production, we were able to create that character. But more than that, documentaries, videos, and my own research as well. And that’s about it.

“To really get the character, I just tried to get into it and went with the flow. And with all the actors I’m with, it was much easier to work very much,” he shared during the Cattleya Killer premiere screening and presscon held last May 12 at the Trinoma Mall cinema in Quezon City.

The 32-year-old actor also said he enjoys doing bida-kontrabida roles the most onscreen.

“We’re not part of the cute stuff, sorry. No offense. But it’s more of we really chose this role. Getting here siguro, there was a time sure, sino ba naman hindi gusto maging bida? But when I got into showbiz, obviously yung complexity ng character and all these other characters, there’s no limits. There’s no right and no wrong. So definitely I enjoyed it and I’m here. I just love doing it. That’s it.

“I live it day by day. I want to take on these characters because it’s fun and I enjoy what we’re doing. I’ve learned so much. I look up to a lot of people to be honest. A lot of character actors and a lot of them are actually with us. It’s just really learning. Experience is really the best teacher. Throughout the years, it’s more of absorbing and just really learning,” he explained.

Before working on the project, which is also the first series collaboration between Prime Video and ABS-CBN, Arjo said he was very much aware of the original film the series was based on which originally starred Aga Muhlach and Christopher de Leon.

“Yes it is one of my favorites from before. Yes I was born already (when it came out). It’s definitely one of the hit films before so definitely I’m sure everyone has seen the film. I was young but I was able to watch it a couple of times definitely.

“Yung script preparation I can’t explain further but again, it’s really pure collaboration between direk, my co-actors, colleagues, of course with direk Ruel (Bayani), with everyone’s guidance and a lot of research on my own, my self-study.

“I’m more of a visual learner in terms of absorbing so I guess I got a lot of documentaries, a lot of interviews, videos on YouTube. And of course with that, I align whatever I learn with what I watched with the character that Cattleya Killer demands for,” he said.

Cattleya Killer stars Arjo Atayde, Jake Cuenca, Zsa Zsa Padilla, Jane Oineza, Ria Atayde, Ricky Davao, Nonie Buencamino, and Christopher de Leon.

The six-episode series, produced by ABS-CBN International Production and Nathan Studios, is based on a classic ‘90s Filipino film, Sa Aking Mga Kamay (In My Own Hands), and will be available on Prime Video on June 1 in Southeast Asia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and other selected territories.
