Filipino-Australian singer grentperez recently announced that he is set to drop his EP on June 2.

When We Were Younger was grentperez’s way of dealing with a “songwriting rut” that he found himself in after his last musical outing. The EP has seven tracks that were created with the feeling of nostalgia as he wanted to recall the carefree creativity of his younger self.

“We would have these super wholesome outdoor writing sessions as we were putting the project together,” grentperez shared.

“Connecting with what I remember as a really lovely childhood grounds me in the real world and keeps me thinking of the important friends and family in my life. It keeps me from getting ahead of myself,” he added.

The album has a familiar feel but has some twists. There’s a bit of bossa nova, golden era Hollywood, and soul.

For the first hundred who will pre-order the EP on vinyl, they will also receive a signed bookmark with custom drawings by grentperez.

The 21-year-old singer also released a single ahead of his EP launch.

"When The Day Is Done" is a song that leans heavily into disco tunes of the past and is “a timeless classic that the whole family can listen to. Or as my dad would say ‘The song I can dance to,'” grentperez explained.

“This track embodies the line ‘there’s no place like home’ and when all is said and done, I just want to get back home and to the feeling of family having your back no matter where you are.”

One day after its music video was released, fans were quick to comment on how they loved the new single.

“Summer song found. This is so good. Grent back at it again with these bangers,” one YouTube follower commented.

“I love this music video. I hope when I get older, I still listen to Grent’s songs,” said another.

“This song makes me feel so nostalgic and sad, but warm and comfy at the same time. And the MV is so cute. I’m gonna cry,” a fan summed up.

The youngest of three kids in a Filipino family, Grant Perez, aka grentperez, was raised on the music of The Eagles, The Beatles, and Queen thanks to his dad’s influence. His musical instincts helped him learn music on his own.

By 2013, he launched his own YouTube channel which currently has over 600k subscribers. He started out with covers before deciding to make his own songs.

By September 2021, he released his debut single “Cherry Wine” which became a hit on Spotify in several countries including the Philippines. Now with over 2 million—and growing—monthly listeners on Spotify, grentperez continues to gain more fans the world over.
