Aga Muhlach and Charlene Gonzalez opened up about their love story. The couple has been married for 22 years now.

"Growing up, it has always been my dream, more than anything, is a good marriage, is a happy marriage, and binigay sa atin ng Panginoon, regalo sa akin," Aga said in an interview with Karen Davila.

Charlene added that from the very beginning, she and Aga had the same vision of having a complete and happy family.

"I think in the beginning Aga and I have always been good friends, maganda 'yung relationship namin, we really got along but we both have the same vision of making the family whole kasi pareho kaming galing sa broken family. Parang something we dreamt and desired to have was a complete family," she shared.

When asked if both of them had emotional baggage going into their marriage as they both came from broken families, Charlene replied, "I think that's what helped make things work for us. It gave us a goal to make our family complete and to really be with one another."

As to how she could described her twenty-two years of marriage to Aga, Charlene said that ”it went and it is still going by very fast."

She further explained, "Aga and I spent a lot of time together, from morning 'til night, hindi kami nauubusan ng kwento, things to talk about, things to dream about, from morning 'til night. We genuinely enjoy each other's company."

Aga added that throughout the course of their marriage, they love to have conversations over coffee.

"Twenty-two years of ano 'yan maraming kape. Kasi pagkagisig namin first thing in the morning pagbukas ng mata mo, I look forward to waking up... coffee na. 'Yung coffee na 'yan kung wala kaming gagawin, that kwentuhan can go on until noontime, until afternoon," he relayed.

In the same interview, the couple shared how their wedding proposal happened. Aga proposed to Charlene but they were not dating at that time. They were only friends back then.

Asked why he decided to propose to Charlene when they were not in a relationship, the actor shared, "This may sound corny but in the middle of our kwentuhan, nakatingin lang ako sa kanya and we were just laughing ganyan, and I said, 'She's my wife,' [I said] to myself."

"And I said, remember sinabi ko, nakatayo siya on top of this rock [sabi ko sa sarili ko] if ito tumalon sa akin 'to, ito asawa ko. You know what? Tumalon siya sa akin, sinalo ko talaga siya, kinilabutan na ako nun and I decided right there and then, my birthday August, we are flying to Singapore for taping of Oki Doki Doc (his old sitcom) and I said I'm gonna propose."

Aga shared that he just popped the question and asked Charlene to marry him. "And she looked at me and she said yes, naiyak na ako," the actor recalled. 

What made Charlene say yes to the proposal?

"You know, it's strange, totoo pala 'yun na when the moment is there and you know it's right, you have confidence with your yes, it's easy. And after I said it, I really told myself, 'Wow I'm getting married, he's gonna be my husband.' And it was with a free heart. It felt so right and totoo pala 'yun. It's hard to explain," Charlene remarked.

The couple said that they started dating after they got engaged and they planned their wedding nine months after.
