EXCLUSIVE: Mutya Orquia admits crush on Joshua Garcia: ‘Ang bait kasi niya’

Currently seen as a host on the PIE channel’s weekly show Para Sa All, Mutya Orquia has come a long way since starting out as a child actress when she was just four years old.

Aside form being a Goin’ Bulilit alumni, Mutya is also known for her role as Abigail, the youngest daughter of Richard Yap in the 2012 long-running family drama series, Be Careful With My Heart and was last seen in the fantaserye series Mars Ravelo’s Darna. Now all grown up, Mutya is more than ready to showcase her acting skills as teenager and stepping out of the child actress mold. 

As she looks forward to turning 18 next year, the grade 10 student said that she is not bothered when people comment on whatever she chooses to wear. 

“Actually madami nga nagugulat pag nag-ka-crop top ako. Pero unti-unti lang din ako nag-ka-crop top and hindi din naman ako super hilig sa revealing clothes. So parang pinapakita ko lang din sa kanila na I’m a teenager na nag-go-grow, ganun.

“And for me, normal din naman pag magpakita ng konting skin kasi as a girl and if that’s what makes you confident, go for it. I would describe my personal style as more on jeans kasi talaga ako. Ang gusto ko talaga pagdating sa mga style, si Lisa Manoban ng BLACKPINK. More on street style and neutral colors kaya natutuwa ako,” she told PUSH.

Having been homeschooled all her life, Mutya looks forward to going to college so she can experience what it feels like to be a regular student.

“Kasi home school ako. Academy de Santa Barbara. Actually before nasa Angelicum College ako. Nag-transfer ako kasi nagkaroon ng rule before na kailangan may araw silang ibibigay, eh since taping nga hindi ko maayos ang sched ko kaya lumipat ako. Pero home school pa rin ako.

“Ever since talaga kaya hindi ako nag-re-regular school. Okay lang naman sa akin pero feeling ko mag-re-regular school din ako sa college or sa senior high. Okay naman ako sa home school kasi hindi siya ganun ka-hassle din. Sa college kasi, gusto ko kasi mag-aviation pero hindi ko pa sure kung anong kukunin kong course. Baka mag-culinary ako. Para lang din na aside sa aviation, meron pa akong ibang course,” she shared.

While working on the fantaseryes series Darna, Mutya admitted she developed a crush on co-star Joshua Garcia.

“Siya talaga yung ultimate crush ko. Ang bait kasi niya and very gentleman[ly]. Nakasama ko na siya sa Darna. Very gentleman kasi si kuya Josh and very professional siya maka-work. Nakaka-chika ko rin siya off camera. Very nice nga siya. Nagkita nga kami nung [Star Magic] All-Star Games. Akala ko medyo nakalimutan na niya ako since nagpagupit din ako ng hair. Pero hindi. Yumakap pa siya sa akin. Basta si Joshua, siya yung crush ko talaga,” she revealed.

As an active person, Mutya said that she is enjoying doing sports like boxing, swimming, and volleyball right now.

“Nag-ba-boxing din kasi ako. Nag-start lang ako last year pero I’ve been really active naman ever since like with swimming, ganyan. And before lagi rin tinatanong sa akin ng directors kung ano ang gusto ko maging role, sinasabi ko action talaga. I like boxing because it boosts my confidence and ako kasi gusto ko yung strong, independent woman ako na I don’t need to rely on someone talaga. Gusto ko ganun akong tao, ganung klaseng babae. And to be like that is having the confidence din na pag lumalabas mag-isa, ganyan,” she explained.

For her future projects, Mutya hopes to get the chance to show off her skills in action and thriller genres. 

“Na-try ko na yung drama comedy and romance  na-try ko na rin sa Darna. Ngayon, open ako for any genre pero gustong gusto ko talaga is action. Gusto ko talaga mag-action. Hopefully mabigyan ng opportunity na mag-action.

“Dream project ko siguro is something na parang connnected pa rin sa action like parang mga Tomb Raider, ganyan. Iba si Darna kasi may kapangyarihan si Darna eh. Gusto ko sana yung walang kapangyarihan. Like puro bugbugan, ganyan (laughs). Ganun, parang Angel Locsin and Maja Salvador,” she added.
