Last June 5, lucky fans of Chris Hemsworth were able to get up close to the Hollywood actor, who was in town along with director Sam Hargrave for the Asia Pacific red carpet premiere of their Netflix film Extraction 2.

The film is the sequel to the 2020 action thriller which stars Chris as mercenary Tyler Rake.

During the press conference, the Aussie actor revealed it was his first time in the Philippines.

“I feel excited to be here. Thank you very much for the warm welcome,” Chris said.

Extraction 2 follows the story of Tyler Rake, who, after barely surviving the events of the first movie, is back as the Australian black ops mercenary, tasked with another deadly mission: rescuing the battered family of a ruthless Georgian gangster from the prison where they are being held.

Director Sam Hargrave revealed the growth of Chris’s character in the sequel.

“In the first movie, it was really about dealing with guilt and the redemption and can one make up for a past mistake. Especially the one that really haunts him is losing his son.

“So in this movie we push that a little further and I feel like we’re exploring the impact of that on his life. But also on other people and how you have a family that you’re born into and also one that you choose.

“So we have this team around him, how does he interact with this family and then we bring in some other characters that he has to interact with that his decisions get affected as well. So it broadens that idea of redemption and family and we try to hit on that a little bit harder. It gives him a lot more breadth as well, a little wider, and deeper,” he explained.
